Redmond sucks, though.

Most are in Washington or California. I think Bigelow is still in Nevada, though, which is a decent place to live. Most of the government subcontractors are still around the Space Coast or Texas, but that stuff is dying out unless Trump saves it. The second space program run by the USAF is probably mostly contracted by Boeing (Washington and California).
The people I knew in places like United Space Alliance, Raytheon, etc., lived demoralized lives. I have to say. You have to thrive on your passion for space exploration because that industry is fucking brutal.
The defense and intelligence contracting side of things is pretty comfy. You might like it there.

I might go to work for them. They seem like they're gunning for mars.Speaker to Animals wrote:Okeefenokee wrote:I heard space-x doesn't pay well either. Don't know if it's true.Speaker to Animals wrote:

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is aiming to start a Martian colony within the next decade, but another rival CEO says his company will actually be the one to put humans on the Red Planet first. Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg recently answered questions at the "Whats Next" tech conference in Chicago, and when asked about the future of his company, he focused on breakthroughs in space travel. "I’m convinced that the first person to step foot on Mars will arrive there riding on a Boeing rocket," said Muilenburg,

I'd rather go to Mars than build the ship. Probably plenty of work to do on a fledgling Martian colony. Make some babies and plan for my progeny to invade Earth someday.

If El Paso doesn't have enough green for my liking, I definitely don't need to go to Mars. I'd like to be on the terraforming project. Pummeling Mars with asteroids to reignite the core, and get the greenhouse effect started.Speaker to Animals wrote:I'd rather go to Mars than build the ship. Yeah, that's an important distinction to make. Certain fields still need degrees, but the ABET accreditation process is in need of an overhaul, in my opinion.Speaker to Animals wrote:Yeah. IT.
Actual engineering really should require a college degree.
Re: SpaceX, they never seem to need my particular discipline. I'd love to get in on that action, but no luck thus far. Of course, as if to taunt me, Tesla sends me unsolicited interview offers every now and then.

Metallurgical engineering currently, in an R&D type of setting. My degree's in Materials Science and Engineering.
The handle's just an inside joke, partially related to my job as a calculus tutor in college.

Cool shit. A fellow student is studying materials science.Calculus Man wrote:Metallurgical engineering currently, in an R&D type of setting. My degree's in Materials Science and Engineering.

My major is mechanical. I'm a math tutor on campus as well. Primarily the cal II students right now. My boss pointed out that learning it is one thing, teaching it is another. Says I'll be an expert by the end of the semester.
It was steam engines that set me down this path,
Good little series of videos. He's just getting started.
