Wasn't cheaper to shoot them at all. The death camps were the most efficient system they could devise. Yes, yes it was. Bullets in of themselves are not a fiduciary burden it is the logistics of distributing the bullets that is the problem. Using bullets on enemy combatants instead of civilians is more efficient in terms of man hours and resources but cost, that's negligible. The Germans were notorious for execution by machine gun and finishing the job with a handgun. Cost of bullets was not a concern.
