Re: Printing Money For UBI
Printing money is simply a stealth tax. A way for the government to (literally) create more funds without explicitly taxing the people. Yet the devaluation of the dollar ultimately impacts the taxpayers anyway, so it’s not a magical free lunch with no ramifications.
What fools an uninformed populace does not fool a non-sentient system like an economy - and arbitrarily increasing money supply in circulation has known effects repeatedly demonstrated throughout time.

Libertarians call everything that reduces the power of the Nouveau Aristocracy a "tax."DBTrek wrote:Printing money is simply a stealth tax. Inflation is a "tax." Fees are a "tax." Giving away money is a "tax." Everything that would reduce the power of The 1% is a "tax;" I know, I know.Fife wrote:Inflation (theft by fiat, that is, IRL inflation, not CPI slight-of-hand hooey) is the most dishonest and evil kind of insidious tax the state and its banksters have dreamed up so far.

Ok, if you don’t like the “tax” label, then it’s simply a way for government to transfer wealth from productive citizens to themselves by covertly printing currency rather than producing anything of actual value.
By mass printing currency that has no productivity or goods justifying its creation they dilute the buying power of all dollars, yet benefit by holding the newly created dollars.
It’s not a legal tax, it’s a stealth transfer of wealth from those who have produced to those who can print currency. Either way, to the economy it’s just a spike in the circulating money supply, which predictably results in a diminished value (demand) for all circulating dollars.

It's not an illegal tax, though.
Ill-advised. Dishonest. Worthy of being gassed. All those things. But currently not illegal or even unconstitutional.
This is one of those areas where Madison fucked up pretty badly.

And it does offer a way to redistribute wealth in one fell swoop.
So it would work as a wealth distribution scheme, as presented, but the results would be far from the idyllic “universal semi-prosperity” of all Americans that its proponents are seeking.
How much money is $30k x 315 million people.
... you think shit is expensive now .... yeeesh!

Madison and a few others let King Washington's bastard child-boss fuck it all up.Speaker to Animals wrote:It's not an illegal tax, though.

You mean that brand spanking new money that came hot off the printer 38 years ago (Reagan) up until now?
It’s in the hands of all those brand spanking new people, industries, businesses, and ventures that created new opportunities, markets, and wealth over the last four decades.
That, and 197% of its 1980 buying power was lost to inflation from government printing in excess of justifiable productivity.

No.
It's in the hands of net exporters like China.
