Re: Why Issue Treasuries?
GCF can cling to gold, I’ll cling to my dollar bought firearms, water, and canning equipment. We’ll see who holds the real value at the collapse.

Oh I completely agree. But that's a completely different goalpost than where we started.DBTrek wrote:GCF can cling to gold, I’ll cling to my dollar bought firearms, water, and canning equipment. We’ll see who holds the real value at the collapse.
Gold vs. Dollars > Gold vs. (all other tangible prepper equipment). Not really the same thing, is it.

What is money?
Let's assume we all have M. Hash stacks on our hands, and that we have already purchased and secured every prepper asset we can imagine.
We still have some stacks left over in the SHTF account.
Would we prefer that excess in federal reserve notes, gold coins, bitcoins, or just more edible commodities and/or ammo? I don't think there's a "right" answer, but there are some "wrong" ones.

If we already have land and a few years of supply, it's not as huge of a problem. If you don't even have any food stashed away, you're probably going to end up sucking dick for biscuit mix and a can of tuna come SHTF.

If I have all the ammunition and canned goods I need and I still have some of the governments funny money left over, I am going to go ahead and put it in a managed stock portfolio for about a decade, and I will let the manager know I have a super high tolerance for risk, because guess what you ninnies, that funny money is still gonna be trucking along, as is our government.
The collapse is a fantasy and gold is an investment fit only for dragons.

Even without a 'collapse', or even a 'correction', your managed portfolio is going to bleed money every year. The fees outweigh the gains, in nearly every fund.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:If I have all the ammunition and canned goods I need and I still have some of the governments funny money left over, I am going to go ahead and put it in a managed stock portfolio for about a decade, and I will let the manager know I have a super high tolerance for risk, because guess what you ninnies, that funny money is still gonna be trucking along, as is our government.

Then buy gold. I am sure ya'll are more clever than every person of real means that I have ever known, and have figured out some special secret about precious metals that eludes everyone else.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Even without a 'collapse', or even a 'correction', your managed portfolio is going to bleed money every year. That must be why they are always trying to sell gold to the geniuses that watch daytime television.

I'm not saying that gold is the answer (it is).Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:Then buy gold. But if I had money to stash, I'd put it all in gold and await the next "downturn" in the market, then go all-in on SPY. The herd in index funds right now is just awaiting slaughter.

Re: Why Issue Treasuries?
If you have money to burn, think long term. For people who could weather the downturn of the great recession, it was only a temporary bath. Don't get into long term, high risk, if you haven't got the stomach to ride out a wave. Put gold in your mattress, Maury Povich viewers approve.GrumpyCatFace wrote:I'm not saying that gold is the answer (it is).Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:Then buy gold.
