China's been that way since the Bronze age. Well, it's usually some form of absolute monarchy with a very intrusive, centralize bureaucracy.Okeefenokee wrote:While you're being agreeable, present an example of a centrally planned economy that didn't fail.jbird4049 wrote:We'll just have to agree to disagree.StCapps wrote:Any centrally planned economy, all your examples prove my point that this kind of economy is extra prone to being "boned" by such "luck".

Yes. The term Banana Republic comes from the United Fruit Co.(among other companies) getting the economies, and governments, of various countries to "fail" so their profits are maintained or increased.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:StCapps wrote:Just because no economic system is perfect does not mean that some systems are not better than others. Heavily centrally planned economies are not one of the better options.
All the most robust economies I can think of are, to one extent or another, hybrids of free markets and central planning. Purely free markets might be better, but no one has had the guts to really try one in a modern nation state... to my knowledge.
Also, not for nothing, but we (the US) have a long history of propping up military dictators in regions that get a little too lefty in order to ensure they aren't successful. Now, they probably wouldn't have been all that hot to trot in any case, but they aren't collapsing in a vacuum either.

The economic failings of any socialist nation is always the fault of those meddling capitalists.

Bribes, economic sanctions, blockades, assassinations, coups, arming and training "rebel" groups, full scale military invasions can indeed cause economic failures. Try harder.StCapps wrote:The economic failings of any socialist nation is always the fault of those meddling capitalists.

When did I claim that they didn't? Start trying, your rebuttal is non-sequitur response to my quoted statement. Socialist nations don't only fail economically due to meddling of foreign capitalists. If the foreign capitalists didn't meddle in the manner you describe, the economic system of these failed socialist economies would still be holding them back economically, they aren't only failing because capitalists are conspiring against them.jbird4049 wrote:Bribes, economic sanctions, blockades, assassinations, coups, arming and training "rebel" groups, full scale military invasions can indeed cause economic failures. Commie apologists always seem to think that if the whole world was just socialist then there would be nothing to hold communism back and all the past economic failures are only there because the economies weren't sufficiently socialist or they were being undermined by the enemies of socialism. They refuse to look in the mirror, they are the victims and any group that is more successful than them is an oppressor who is only more successful than they are because they are getting rich of the victims backs. They think they live in some kind of bizarro world where failure is virtue and success is a vice.
Fuck off with that shit, the capitalist "oppressors" just have a superior economic model compared to the commie wannabes who blame everyone else for their own failures. The lefty ideologues just refuse to admit it despite all the historical evidence proving otherwise.

Yes, communism might be impractical. That said, the United States government has tried to take down all governments it perceives as communist, most that are socialist, and many that were merely left of center. The results always benefited the wealthy elites, including corporations especially American ones, while impoverishing most of the people.StCapps wrote:When did I claim that they didn't? Yeah the US piled on to get a piece of the action, but their piling on wasn't the cause of the communist nations doing poorly economically. The commies did more to fuck themselves economically speaking than the capitalist elites could ever aspire to.jbird4049 wrote:Yes, communism might be impractical. Re: Venezuela news
Not only is it hard trying to think of a Communist country that did not utterly fail, it is equally hard to think of any person of marxist persuasion who isn't a massive faggot. They are among the most insufferable people on the planet. I encountered quite a few of these morons in college, including this spanish guy who dressed in camo and wore a red star trucker hat. We called him "The FARC terrorist." He disrupted every lecture that had anything remotely negative to say about The Soviet Union and just kept making the exploitation argument. I wish that every Marxist person living in the air-conditioned pampered west was forced to spend a year living as a regular person in a communist country. Maybe we could put them in a time machine and send them to 1959 China or 1935 Ukraine. Since they clearly don't know how to read (seeing as how the crimes and failures of communism are well-documented), perhaps seeing it first hand would give them some perspective.
