There is a time for good men to do bad things.

For fuck sake, 1984 is NOT an instruction manual!

Elon Musk is a jittery alarmist tilting at windmills, Stephen Hawking has degenerated into a doddering old man masked by an ancient text-to-speech program, Bill Gates thinks he can buy his way into heaven after a lifetime of fucking over his fellow man, Peter Thiel is a spineless coward who will back whoever the wind shifts toward, Larry Page has delusions of saving the world by stuffing it into enough properly labeled boxes, Mark Zuckerberg has turned to fad shit to relieve his boredom, Ray Kurzweil can't get past the bargaining stage that he is going to die in the next twenty years and nothing he can do will stop that, Eliezer Yudkowsky is high on his own transhumanist supply, and the entire population of Silicon Valley should be among the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Did I leave anyone out?
"Old World Blues.' It refers to those so obsessed with the past they can't see the present, much less the future, for what it is. They stare into the what-was...as the realities of their world continue on around them." -Fallout New Vegas

The fix for avoiding AI destroying humanity is to give them emotions. Emotions are the basis for environmentalism, and wanting to save the whales and polar bears.

Well let's not get hasty here... I mean obviously we like Musk again but he's naming a lot of people that sound pretty good here.

We should make them as women, and simulate estrogen, because we all know women are more empathetic and estrogen makes them friendlier.

So basically like what humans are to dogs, cats, or any number of pets. Yet we keep them around, mainly because we have emotional attachment to pets. We find them cute or adorable. If humans were perfectly logical beings we would not have pets. We would not see value in protecting our environment, or keeping around species of animals that have no productive value to us. We keep this stuff around, and protect it because we are fucking hysterical emotional beings many of whom are more concerned about making sure polar bears don't go extinct instead of making sure children in Africa don't starve to death.

You assume perfect logic would result in prioritizing 'productive value.'

Either way, the fact that we are rather capricious with our affection towards other species doesn't exactly make me think a sentimental AI is safer.

Ok, so no tampering with our Nature (tm)? Got it. I'm glad this moral conundrum has been solved.

Even if you could convince people that we have a Nature(tm), you won't get people to agree on what "it" is. Because there are going to be a lot of people who don't make a distinction between fixing a bad heart and the ability to run faster, or say, fly.

Human nature(tm) is to be flawed. You already changed our nature when decided to fix those flaws.
