If we're already doing it, and being wasteful as all getout with it, why not do better? Unless we're gonna stop it altogether, but I don't see that happening.

Debating Fallacy: it's not either-or.

You're being difficult to understand. There are three options.

• 1 Keep things the way they are (welfare)
  2 Change things (welfare in a different fashion)
  3 End things (no more welfare)

We've already accepted #1. #2 could be a better version of #1 (which we've already accepted) Other than doing #1 or #2, we're only left with scrapping the whole thing and not replacing it.

With productivity continuing to rise, and necessary man hours to ensure that productivity decreasing through automation, why is it so easy to imagine almost everybody getting fucked in that deal and almost impossible to imagine the majority benefiting?

Is there some universal law that I am unaware of that states things must be arranged to maximize toil?

It's not what may happen, it's what has happened. Productivity has gone up and workers have not seen proportional benefit. Every cent is being wrung out of the worker (maximum toil), with the benefits going to the 1%.

I absolutely agree.

But thinking what has been happening is what must happen seems like a failure of imagination.
