A border wall one upped the border fence dudes with a more imposing mental image that made Trump seem like the toughest option on border security. A wall just seems tougher and more permanent than a fence, which makes the wall a more formidable mental image that captures people's imaginations when they have nothing else to fill in the blanks. So naturally most of the electorate came to view Trump as the tough guy on border security with the border wall mental image working in his favor.

As attractive as that is (Does CLT end up in Appalachia in your seccession map? I am on the outskirts, so we are still heavily armed and loaded with tobacco like all good NC boys should be) I think I would be wasting my time. Apparently even the most outsider candidate we have had in a very long time is flipped within a few months.
