That reminds me, I checked out that statue at the courthouse. It's the guy Bell County was named for. Buncha military service mixed in with being the governor and a congressman.

Wonder what the Mexicans think about a guy who fought in the rebellion getting a statue.

DB knows it too.

Starting a GoFundMe for Okee and The Conservative so they can go back in time and explain to the Southern legislatures that they don't actually know why they're seceeding from the North. Hopefully, under the direction of TC and Okee, the South will get its Articles of Secession right the second time around.

EDIT: Notice even with all their word-mincing, it's still about slavery. "It's about state's rights!" - Sure, specifically a state's right to own SLAVES per the Articles of Secession. "It was economic warfare" - Sure, against an economic model built upon the backs of SLAVES. Derp.

IF they have a rational argument -- then articulate it. Put down the baseball bats and try to persuade fellow citizens.

How perfect must a man be to be allowed a statute?

But everything gotta be black and white -- Robert E Lee was not a cartoon goon, felt great loyalty to his state but great misgivings about slavery

But the people making these decisions to remove shit by force will never have to confront any of this, they are simply better than us all, and even asking these questions would make me hitler
There's minimal room for complexity within their ideology.

What's easier? To face the gross problems with their own ideology or just try to shout down everyone else/threaten with violence?

Yeah, Flip. I'm actually surprised some crew from Eastern Washington hasn't come by to do a retaliatory Lenin statue pull down in Fremont.
I figure they either don't know it's there, or they aren't the same statuary-destroying rabid zombie-mob as their counterparts on the left.

Probably the former.

Why don't you wrap up your video game, your clothing line, and your novel . . . then come talk to me, half-asser.

Man, this would be a much easier major.

The Spanish American War all boils down to a coal fire, really. Nothing more to it. And that concludes my thesis.
The Okee school of simpleton history also picks a single reason for the Civil War. It simply picks the wrong one.

Not at all. I've said repeatedly that there is more than a century of context that leads up to 1861 going all the way back to the navigation acts. Also, it doesnt end in 1865, either.

If you want to boil it down, you get to, "who's gonna be in charge?" But that's too simple. Any war can be boiled down to that.

If you want to argue abstractions and tangential relationships you can make any war about anything. Why only go back one hundred years to revise the primary cause of the Civil War? Why not take it back a thousand years? Two thousand?

Or hey, here's a crazy idea - we could read *why* the South seceded from the documents they created explaining their reasoning, and go with that.

Oh come on, I had worse thrown at me at the DC forum, and doubly so at High School...:ugeek:

Seriously, learn how to read you myopic manatee. It's about power, manpower, voting power, political power. Without those three things your "It's about slavery" BS wouldn't fly and didn't since the south lost.

As I said before, and I will say again until you get steamrollered over by the thing we in the real world call logic, the south had slavery and not much else, they also had the political power to maintain the status quo. That fell to the wayside when California, the Bastard Child of America wanted to be part of the Union as a Free State, that meant no slaves.

This meant that the north would have more power, due to persons, politics, and others. This would mean the "Union North" had enough power to vote out possibly the allowance of slavery. Which the south survived on.

For the South, it was slavery, but that was the end result, the reason behind it all was political power, which they would lose if Californa became a Free State.

Oh, my book is up to chapter 12, (over 260 pages 70,000+ words so far) the clothes line is on the back burner, and my video game will if the book allows it, become part of one and the same.

I play the long game, you go for quick jabs, if I played your game, I'd be as disgruntled as you are with life right now. For me, I'm happy where I am.
