Well, it was about time that Chappelle got some tribute; nice touch for the NFL.Kath wrote:The audio sucked. I couldn't really hear him. Vocals completely drowned out by the music.Fife wrote:The halftime show kicked ass, tho.

Another way of looking at it.. Lately I have watched gymnastics and calisthenics competitions because I am trying to learn many of those skills. It works because it helps me visualize some distant goal and it motivates me to train. I think watching football all the time would do something similar -- assuming you actually belong to a local football league, train, and play games all the time.
Otherwise, it's just being used to manipulate you into sedantarism and disengagement from intellectual life. Consider the kind of guy who watches so much of this entertainment that he memorized most stats and trivia related to the game. What more could he accomplish had he devoted that time to a real sport that he actually competes in, or to mathematics, musical instruments, and *gasp* politics and current events..

There is something viscerally wrong with the obese man who watches other men exercise all the time. I am not pointing any fingers here. But if ever there was a conspiracy by Nukedog's arch-villians, I swear to God it has to be NFL.
Bring back the gladiatorial combat games and make the contestants drawn from the audience in a kind of lottery. That seems fair and honest to me.
I regularly encounter men in such a sad and sorry state that they associate their masculinity and athleticism in a great part to how much televised sports content they consume. It's also true that lots of otherwise fit and athletic men watch this garbage without losing sight of their masculinity, but one could also say something similar about drug abuse.
I think this kneeling bullshit is what is breaking the spell, however, because it's undermining the entire point of the circus. I think that's why many in the political class are pushing back.
Even when I followed the NFL closely I rarely sat and watched games. It is a nice background thing to have on in the shop while working in the Winter, I also miss the NFL as my set big workout nights Monday and Thursday. I'd hop on the elliptical and I'd watch the game and go for an hour. Then follow it up with body weight workout after.

It's way too hard to sit down and watch a general season football game, but if it's a good game, the Super Bowl is different. Last night's game was the best SB game in awhile.
Not sure why watching a football game is any more/less sedentary than watching a television show or sitting on the computer blathering on about how non white people are out to get you.

Watching sports inspires people to take part in them. After the London Olympics, sports clubs registered a huge uptake in people wanting to take part. During Wimbleton and for weeks after you cannot find a free tennis court. Watching sports does exactly the opposite of what you claim.Speaker to Animals wrote:Another way of looking at it.. Not here and especially not the fucking NFL, dude. It's like a fucking spiritual, physical, and psychological cancer.
Or did you think SNL's Superfans was made from whole-cloth??

And, Kath, watching TV all the time is just as bad. Have you ever stopped and thought about what we lost to this shit?

Also, I am saying this game because this game is what mattered. Just like you and everyone else here like things to say on topic. So live by your mantras or STFU.
Hey, the Patriots only had ONE penalty in the entire game............. are you telling me the Patriots never held on the offensive line or committed any kind of pass interference ?
ONE Penalty the entire game................... are the Patriots just that good and clean ?

Some of you all are taking the NFL too lightly. The NFL is serious stuff for real Americans; no time for frivolity regarding the New National Pastime.

How do you think the men on the pitch were inspired to play football? They watched others playing and thought to themselves ''I'd like to have a go at that''.Speaker to Animals wrote:Montegriffo wrote:Watching sports inspires people to take part in them. More sports at schools, colleges and on TV is a positive thing.
