Oooh, right after Landeskog in 2011; Huberdeau at #3, Sheifelle at #7...

... but check this out; Richard Rackell at 30th, John Gibson at 39th, Brandon Saad at 43rd, Nikita Kucherov at 58th, John-Gabriel Pageau at 96th, Johnny Gudreau at 104th, Andrew Shaw at 139th, Josh Manson at 160th.

Let's look at 2009... OMFG; Oliver Ekman-Larsson at #6... oof.

Ryan Ellis at #11 that year too. Avs suck at drafting, at least with top picks most of the time. We got O'Reilly in the 2nd round and Barrie in the 3rd round in 2009, so wasn't that terrible of a draft for us, thanks to a solid recovery in the later rounds, but still you see we have trouble nailing high picks.

I could see the Avs taking Portland Winterhawks centerman Cody Glass, he's been one of the fastest risers, kind of a Patrice Bergeron style two-way player.

More of a safe bet pick than a risk-reward, ceiling perhaps not so high, projects as a second line center, but a good bet to make the league, and sooner rather than later.

Yeah I could see us taking Cody Glass too, the Avs tend to like safest picks to make the NHL sooner rather than later, see Matt Duchene over Oliver Ekman Larsson, or Landeskog over Schiefele and Huberdeau. They really don't like waiting for players to develop, they tend to prefer safe picks, to risk/reward picks, especially near the top of the draft. The Avs don't exactly have the greatest track record with top draft picks, and our safety first attitude has a lot to do with that, it's like we know our scouts are shit and we try to mitigate that by picking the safest guys possible even if they have a lower ceiling.

It begins.
Sweden has never beaten Canada in a World Cup final.
May the best team win.

On paper at least, clearly the Swedes have the better team, this is the Swedish "A" team, vs. the Canadian "C" team, Sweden's game to lose, Canada; the plucky underdogs.

The Russians sure found a way to lose.

Plucky underdogs indeed.

The Russians didn't have Hank Lundqvist and the All World Swedish Defence; Hedman, Ekman-Larsson, Stralman, Klingberg, Brodin, and Edler.
