I forgot about all of you raging at Obama for the last eight years over the state of internet privacy.

I forgot about all of you dancing in the streets six months ago when this law passed.

For me the internet privacy issue is real, and it is a problem... the problem is that the thing was written in such a way that an executive action could nullify it, this to me meant it had no real teeth to protect it in the first place.

Oh I don't disagree, the problem here is that transparency is what they don't want in this case. They want companies to be transparent to find out what they are doing with their private data.

The real problem is that their data isn't private as they think it is. As long as you use a third party company, you will always be at the whims of said company... including what they do with your data.

Personally, it's the reason I own all my hardware... I also VPN into everything before surfing at home now. My wife doesn't understand why I insist on it, but she accepts it because she knows that I know security... I've been debating about finding out what I need to start up a small ISP, but I'm not there yet.

The problem is that he ran on a platform that is described as doing the will of the majority of the people, and to claim the majority of the American people want their personal lives stolen and put up for sale would be laughable if the threat not so real and immanent.

You forgot all of that, but remember concern over NSA data collection and the Patriot Act being the exclusive remit of conservatives?

I am beginning to think it isn't our sanity, but your memory that is the problem.

The NSA stuff is a separate issue. We can debate whether intelligence services ought to have access to this information ostensibly for national defense separately from whether ISPs should be allowed to gather the data and sell it to private parties for profit, and potentially the ruin of their customers.

Also, I have seen nobody address how easily this could be abused. Look how vindictive and lying women can be in the family court system. Imagine if they can just roll up beside your house, log in to your wifi, and download questionable material only to "buy" the information later from your ISP and then throw it in your face at court.

This law is a total disaster waiting to happen.
