The other problem is that you have to generate the additional electricity to account for the energy we now get from burning fossil fuels in vehicles. That means either a shit ton of coal or more nuclear power plants. But environmentalists will shit kittens.

Not really, even with dirty energy the efficiencies of scale make electric cars better than fossil fuel ones. Many of us environmentalists have accepted extra nuclear energy plants could be the answer while clean energy catches up with demand.

For efficiency of scale your batteries have to provide the same amount of energy that hydrocarbons do. The only upside is it's renewable and that's cool and all but still inefficient until the miracle battery comes along.

Getting better all the time though, ranges are now reaching practical levels for most commuters and the cost per mile far out competes hydrocarbons.
Nearly there, you like cars and you are young enough, you should retrain as an electric car mechanic......

I'm really not opposed to any of that. I don't necessarily even like the pipeline but really all we will have done is add a few extensions and one to Canada. It's going to be refined they aren't shipping raw tar sand to the global market. If they were they would just ship it from wherever like ayyy buy my shitty oil.

If I were America I'd settle for US steel in the pipeline and you'll be lucky if you even get that. Perfect is the enemy of good and trying to make the deal a one way street for America is never going to fly. Canada has to get something out of it or we'll kill the deal.

What do you think we're doing right now? We aren't selling this shit. Saudi's oil barely needs to be ran through a strainer and set up in a still that's all the refining it needs. They are currently seeing how much they can pump until they run out or die trying. Pipelines make tar sands cheaper to refine and more likely to be drilled and put to market.

Mind you fracking is nasty business in and of itself. I worked around a frack water reclamation plant it's super fucking caustic. Probably radioactive to boot. If there is a way to do it better we should but too many fucks take shortcuts when they are fracking this is true. I've seen it. They would fill our dumping pool to overflowing then our bosses would tell us to get it moving but it takes time to process and they get payed by the truck load. Next thing you know your foreman is telling you to pump it on the ground near the river. I fucking hated that job and of course all my coworker's didn't speak English.
