Re: NHL 2017 -Official Discussion Thread
IIRC, the AV's GM at the time was Greg Sherman, but then they made Roy "VP and Director of Hockey Operations" so Sherman was then GM in name only.
It was Roy and Sakic running things, the inmates were running the alysum, so Leafy, this is when things went off the rails in Colorado.
Neither Roy nor Sakic had any clue what they were doing, Sakic still doesn't, need to get a real GM there, hiring Sakic to be GM was a big mistake, he's not a GM, just because Yzerman is a GM, doesn't mean everybody should be, this is why Shanahan rightly hired Lamoriello.

I thought that offer sheet went down pre-Roy, before Sakic got promoted, back when Sherman actually was running the show, before they took over. Could be wrong, but I could have sworn Roy coming on as coach wasn't even a rumor and before there was talk of Sakic taking on a larger role in the organization. What's the exact date on this offer sheet? I thought it was Sherman who screwed Roy and Sakic, at least in the case of O'Reilly.Smitty-48 wrote:IIRC, the AV's GM at the time was Greg Sherman, but then they made Roy "VP and Director of Hockey Operations" so Sherman was then GM in name only.

It was March of 2013, Sherman was still in charge, Roy didn't take over the VP job until May, I'm just saying, Roy and Sakic have been a disaster for Avs as management, Sherman was no Francois Beauchemin, but Roy and Sakic were even worse, it's like Harold Ballard is running the team, "just make Punch Imlach the GM!"

The worst was signing Erik Johnson to a seven year $42 million contract, with a NMC, that's a brutal one, he's 29, and he averages what? Like 45 games a season? He's hurt all the time, he's got Joffrey Lupul Syndrome, getting rid of that contract is going to be tough.

Carl Soderberg is making $4.75 million for another three years as well with a M-NTC. Dumb decisions are being made.Smitty-48 wrote:The worst was signing Erik Johnson to a seven year $42 million contract, with a NMC, that's a brutal one, he's 29, and he averages what? Fuckin' Carl Soderberg, I forgot about that one, $4.75 million for 6 goals and 14 points in 80 games, and he's a -26; brutal.

Plus we still have Francois Beachemin under contract for another year at 4.5 million, and he has a NMC. Yeah it's pretty safe to say Roy and Sakic are terrible management, all three of those brutal contracts are squarely on them.

Beachemin at $4.5 million with a NMC? Isn't he like a hundred years old? We traded him for Jake Gardiner, like ten years ago it feels like.
That's brutal.
I bet Mike Babcock could make it work tho, you give Babcock; MacKinnon, Duchene, Landeskog, Rantanen, Barrie, and Pickard, he'd figure something out.

We sure could use a MIke Babcock right about now. Instead we are giving Jared Bednar another chance after a 48 point season. No one on the coaching staff or management team has gotten fired despite being pretty much the worst team in the league in GF, GA, PP and PK. We're next level retarded.Smitty-48 wrote:I bet Mike Babcock could make it work tho, you give Babcock; MacKinnon, Duchene, Landeskog, Rantanen, Barrie, and Pickard, he'd figure something out.
