More drilling benefits Canada.

Cheaper refining of synthoil benefits Canada.

The contracts are bought and sold in the NYMEX, mostly to foreign parties.

There is a one-time, minuscule impact on jobs for about six months, hiring maybe a few thousand people before they are right back on welfare or disability. That's not enough to justify this project.

There is a slight benefit to refineries, which might hire maybe a few hundred more people, and it might better secure jobs of their existing employees. Still not enough to justify the risks.

The entire project is questionable. China, for example, has lost billions in this tar sands debacle.

It's not at all clear that investment in Canadian oil sands makes a lick of sense, financially. We could end up with a shit ton of pipeline for no purpose.

I had hoped we would learn our lesson after the Deep Water Horizon disaster, that foreign governments and corporations will NOT pay the costs when they fuck up.

Fuck no to this pipeline. Fuck that. We don't need it. If they want to ship millions of barrels of oil all the way across the United States, then they need to pay us upfront for every last barrel.
Too fucking late.

Also, did you just turn Liberal?

We might all be driving electric cars in 10 years anyway. My farmer friend says they reckon all big farm's tractors will be electric by then. Take that big oil.......screw you middle east.....not worth fighting for any more.....
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Maybe. Hopefully. But right now electric doesn't look viable for some time.

The other problem is that you have to generate the additional electricity to account for the energy we now get from burning fossil fuels in vehicles. That means either a shit ton of coal or more nuclear power plants. But environmentalists will shit kittens.

If you want ALL the vehicles on the road to run on the grid, then you are going to need a fuck ton of nuclear power plants.

Oh lawd. Let me help you guys. First of all Trump needs to make sure this pipe is American steel. That entails a fuck ton of industry.

This is a foundry. We only have a few in this country right now that I'm aware of. I want to say this one is USS Philly.

Image

Once they get the pig iron made it gets sent off to a forge. They pound it, heat it, pound some more, heat it and in between grind all the cracks out.

Image

Image

Eventually it gets flattened and rolled up into mults.

Image

Image

From there it's trucked off to another mill to be rolled and welded using tooling and machinery almost exclusively made in the US

Image

Being heat treated

Image

Stocked

Image

Inspected

Image

Cut

Image

And finally installed

Image

Now that we have all that done we can ship not just Canadas tar sands but more importantly ours, cheaper.

Image

Now that it's cheaper and we can start being more competitive against much easier to refine Saudi sweet crude we can do more drilling.

Image

And refining (note all the pipe)

Image

Image

Image

Now refineries employ a lot of operators but many times more contractors to do anything from scaffolding, masonry, electrical, lubrication most installations for pumps, blowers and turbines, pipe fitters, mill wrights, painters, sonic testers, radiation testers, boiler makers, thousands of machine shops turning out valves, fittings and other moving parts. You name it. Thousands upon thousands of jobs. So yeah, we'll take their oil and refine it. Ship it. Sit on it. Whatever.

Now comes the industry where people with college educations are employed. Here is the energy corridor

Image

I know much less about what goes on there but it employs thousands upon thousands of very well payed Houstonians that go on to buy houses, cars, food whatever.

Long story short, Canada is going to ship us oil and we are going to make money refining it and selling it. If you want to add a fee on top, whatever that's fine. I just want American pipe in American ground.

Or Trump loses my vote. Simple.

It's impact on jobs has been shown to be minimal, and in any case, it's the wrong direction. We need to figure out how to get off of oil. Let the rest of the world remain dependent on it.

I'd rather eat the costs now and be able to cruise straight through the peak oil event rather than increase dependency on oil when we know for a fact that this fucking event is looming in our future.

@Nuke sounds good man. But that's not what they're doing. Trump doesn't care about your vote now - he already got it. Now pick yourself out of those sweaty sheets and start crying rape.
