Dogs don't like when you bare your teeth. Because of contrast, the teeth of coloured people are easier to notice so it freaks out dogs who aren't used to it.

That's a crazy theory, but it would explain why many blacks seem more dog-paranoid than whites I know.
Not that all blacks are paranoid of dogs, several own dogs of course, just in my experience they're a lot more wary of dogs than white dudes I know.

On a second though I probably got it from my wife’s family. They had farm in Zimbabwe and owned German shepherds. It’s their theory and I suspect they got it down there.
