there is too much knowledge since then of the benefits of not following the old segregated garden models for you to be doing it that way.

remember the three sisters guild? plants work together. you've never walked into a field and seen only one plant grouped here, and one plant grouped over there. they mix together and find balance according to their needs and products.

look for a permaculture course nearby.

I just meant having all of that variety on a single homestead. Some things, like wheat, simply can't be mixed in with others. It would be near-impossible to harvest, even if it worked.

I have that dvd. He has a field of grain with many different plants mixed in. Harvesting is done by hand, but it's only a small plot.

So what are you doing to encourage bees on your land guys? A hive does not cost much and it seems simple enough and not too time consuming.
Preserve bees, make mead and something to put on your scones made with your own flour. It's win, win, win with just the occasional sting to keep it real.......
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

It's been settled for over 500 years now.

Where can I get some slaves so I don't have to work the land myself?

I'm actually planning to keep some bees, once I get the family moved to the homestead. Can't really do that in my current house. Or chickens, which saddens me. Whatever.. just.. talk to Carlus. <sob>
