But realistically, if this "nut job" did not flunk an FBI background check, and so even with Canadian style gun control, could have got his hands on the automatic weapon, what is society even taking into account here with their gun control non debate?

Because here's the thing, I would submit, Canadian style gun control in the US is a non starter, not only is not going to have the votes, but the SCOTUS will overthrow it, to tell you the truth, the Canadian gun control regime isn't even constitutional in Canada, it will be overthrown at the SCOCAN eventually, it's just a matter of time, but in the USA, it's already been overthrown, so what do you realistically expect to get in the USA, in terms of gun control?

Let's flip that around. Why regulate or ban tanks, grenades, hell private fighter jets if you can afford them, more than you would regulate your hands or a butter knife?
