I don't think the Russian army is the problem

the Russians haven't even deployed that many troops into Ukraine yet

it just seems like maybe the Russians are unsure of themselves suddenly at the strategic level

they are holding back their main force, hesitant to commit it to the fight

Well I just heard that Putin has put his nuke forces on high alert. He’s resorted to swinging his radioactive dick and it’s only been a couple of days. Fun times.
If he does that, that's the end of Russia period.

the Russian war protestors sure are brave

it's an inspiration when it comes to standing up to our tyrants here in Canada

I think they are what is giving Putin the most pause

it's not the military situation in Ukraine

it's the impressive levels of dissent in Russia, considering the consequences these people will suffer

Russian troops have entered Kharkiv now

bear in mind that Russian doctrine is not to advance on a broad front

the Russians work deliberately and methodically

so they will build up their forces on specific axes of advance until they have overwhelming superiority

they are focused on the two main cities right now, Kiev & Kharkiv

but I don't think you can judge the results either way after only four days

this could go on for weeks, just to take these two cities, or fail to do so

The morale factor is going to be important.... in the military and in the population in general.

And certainly this is early days... in what promises to be a long and ugly struggle... but if it is, in fact, weak already... that bodes poorly.

He doesn't have forever to prove to his army and his people that this is worth the fight.

The possibility of military non-compliance and ultimately regime change is lurking in the background.

the Ukrainians have captured a couple of significant prisoners

significant because of the unit they were captured from

423rd Guards "Yampol" Motor Rifle Regiment

that is 4th Guards "Kantemirovskaya" Tank Division from Moscow

and that is 1st Guards Tank Army

so that is a sign of Putin having to commit his main force to bolster the fight for the cities

here's how that was done

Ukraine was much less urban at the time though

the Germans didn't have all these big industrial cities to take at the time
