Please tell me how a movie based on a true event like Lone Survivor is pushing and agenda, but Act of Valor, that the Navy itself admits was a propaganda film to bolster recruitment isn't?heydaralon wrote:Case in point: Get Out and Lone Survivor. Lone Survivor is lousy dude. It might have been based on a true story but it is made in the most cynical one-dimensional way possible. Rambo was more realistic.

I'd say Act of Valor doesn't try to conceal the fact that it is basically an extended recruitment film, whereas Lone Survivor is a subliminal recruitment film which tries to pass itself of as historical, so I find Act of Valor to be more redeemed, simply by being more transparent.
Also, Act of Valor doesn't have the conceit to fuck with actual events, whereas Lone Survivor does, and then blows it, badly.

The ironic thing is, the best subliminal recruitment films, are the Hollywood Liberal Panty Waist Anti-Vietnam War films; what better American War Gods, than Colonel Kilgore and Sergeant Barnes?
I rememeber when my father said "Oooh, that Sgt Barnes is evil!" and I said, "What?! Barnes is the hero, the rest of those clowns would have been dead along time ago without Barnes! Elias gets all stoned and then he just goes a lone ranger rush, whoopie fuckin do! Elias was a rat, he had to go, you dont fuckin rat to the Man, in a war zone."

Barnes was great, I think Gunnery Sergeant Hartman is the most memorable of them all. Whats awesome about Hartman is you never see him break the hardass character in that movie. He's always dialed up to 10. You never seen him eating with the other sergeants, talking about his hobbies, or playing with his children and kissing his wife, he always screaming and yelling funny insults at Gomer and Joker.

Well FMJ is a comedy, literally didn't stop laughing through the whole movie, Hartman is one of the funniest characters in movie history, no doubt, but Kilgore and Barnes, that's poetry.

Sorry. I am using my cell to type this. Cutting and pasting is a problem. So too much quoting:-)
What I see is attacks on the people using art in ways that you do not approve of. Art is language meant to be spoken in ways. Just like any language. Just think of how often any song, symphony, or opera different, often very differently.

Re: Congressman Steve Scalise (R) shot
It is possible to re envision Shakespeare and get an interesting adaptation. Someone already mentioned West Side Story which is a good example. The Lion King is basically Hamlet. 10 things I hate about you was based on The Taming of the Shrew.
Ian McKellen was born for this role.
Kurosawa's Ran is King Lear.
I liked Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing.
Most attempts are just painful to behold. Redoing Shakespeare in a new way is so unoriginal and easy. Many try but only a few can pull it off. I prefer Shakespeare as close to the original as possible. Kenneth Branagh's movies stand out the most.

So it's even worse than Id thought. They end on the assassination of Caesar? Therefore taking out the whole tragedy realization and making it total liberal fantasy murder porn. Great, let's all celebrate that abortion, you do every other one.jbird4049 wrote:Sorry. I am using my cell to type this. Cutting and pasting is a problem. So too much quoting:-)
