Marvel executive says emphasis on diversity may have alienated readers

Looks like Marvel realized shitting all over their audience was a bad idea.

Despite forming the basis for the multi-million dollar blockbusters that have recently overtaken Hollywood, Marvel comic book sales have been falling.

Well, Marvel VP of Sales, David Gabriel, spoke about what they believe could possibly lead to the decline, putting the blame on diversity.

“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity,” Gabriel told ICv2 at the Marvel Retailer summit. “They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not.”

H continued: “I don’t know that that’s really true, but that’s what we saw in sales. We saw the sales of any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up against.

Marvel took pretty much every iconic character that was a white male and tossed them away in favor of "diversity". They went so overboard it basically said "we hate white males" to their fanbase, who is made of up of lot of white males. Readers can take some diversity, but when you force it down their throats at the expense of characters that have been developed and loved for years you will turn people off.

I bet the Marvel guy will be called all the usual names and eventually be forced to resign. The SJWs will call anyone who isn't 100% on board with he diverse characters racists as well. They won't win people over with that tactic.

Marvel comics were getting really shitty even back in the late eighties and early nineties. That's why Image took off. DC went super dark themed and pretty much won the comic wars as far as I can tell. I still have a lot of those first edition Image comics cached away.

Marvel was killing it for the last few years, their line was solid and they had been beating DC in market share pretty consistently. They still have good books (Moon Knight) but their sales have dipped pretty concurrently with their commitment to diversity for diversity's sake. They've been trying to capture the market Image has been appealing to, where books like that exist a little more freely, Saga (https://imagecomics.com/uploads/release ... vol1-1.png) being the prime example. Marvel has had some success, the muslim Ms. Marvel book was good apparently, but even last year I thought those books were becoming a little over saturated. Still mostly white guys at my local comic shop..
