Is it mandatory? Doesn't take much imagination to frame that as forced servitude.

Anything you're compelled to do without just recompensation is theft/slavery

And the vast majority of people don't receive benefits back in relation to the amount of taxes they pay

Social contract, national bonds, and all that “I’m proud of what we’ve built and maintained together stuff” is what is supposed to motivate those that seek to improve themselves and their community.

It doesn’t always have to be “What do I get back personally?”
