We, the nation of immigrants, have been fearing the next wave of immigrants since there was a second wave. It wasn't all kumbaya until the Mexicans started showing up. Same song/different people.kybkh wrote:

Not really, there is a difference, back then Americans weren't afraid to stand up to be Americans, and pushed people to integrate into the US, to be Americans. Today, that willingness to show that the American Way is how things are done in the US has been neutered by the SJW groups out there today.Kath wrote:We, the nation of immigrants, have been fearing the next wave of immigrants since there was a second wave. We still do. We just don't welcome people who want to make the US like their home... they left for a reason, if they miss home, go back. Don't make the US a bastardization of itself just to appease a culture that is entirely opposite of what the US is.Kath wrote:Yes, except for the Irish, the Italians, the Jewish, the Chinese, the Japanese, etc., we have always welcomed immigrants.
Sorry, forgot you don't do sarcasm. When the Irish got here, they were shunned. When the Italians got here, they were shunned. When the Chinese got here, they were shunned. The Conservative wrote:We still do. I am pointing out that there is a difference between then and now, you are refusing to accept that... how come that doesn't amaze me?Kath wrote:Sorry, forgot you don't do sarcasm. Everyone was in a panic because they wanted jobs and we didn't want them to take our jobs. Keep those filthy Irish out of our factories!
I am not disagreeing with her on that thing happened back then, I am stating how it's different between then and now though overall.GrumpyCatFace wrote:You're both right, you know.
This has been debunked numerous times. We remember that immigrants came here and just started speaking English within a few days, but the reality is that the first generation to get here did not learn English as the norm. Their children did.The Conservative wrote:
