Time for a little myth busting

I was thinking about posting those, but I thought the big words might hurt some people here.

These switches were typically spurred on by major legislative changes and events, such as the Civil War in the 1860’s, and Civil Rights in the 1960’s. Today it is the opposite in many respects. Although what happened is complex and some voter bases and factions never switched, you can see evidence of the “big switches” by looking at the electoral map over time (where voter bases essentially flipped between 1896 and 2000). Or, you can see it by comparing which congressional seats were controlled by which parties over time (try comparing the 115th United States Congress under Trump to the 71st United States Congress under Hoover for example). Or, you can see the “solid conservative south switch” specifically by looking at the electoral map of the solid south over time. Or, you can dig through the historic party platforms. Any of those links will give you a look at the basics of what did and didn’t change, but the details are as complex as U.S. party history.

Let's try to always remember that the party of small government, the democrats, and the party of big government, the republicans, switched sides somewhere in the late 1800's, early 1900's.

The democrats were always big government, Kath. The idea of "small government" died with the Whiskey Rebellion as far as I can tell.

The democrats have always been a party that sows racial and class conflict for political gain. It's a criminal organization. Always has been. What was Taminy Hall? Was that a small-government operation? Come on.

What party did Lincoln get elected from?

There existed no party of "small government" in 1860.

The small government stuff began in the GOP in the early 20th century.

The small government stuff was always antithetical to American expansion and progress. It's probably one of the big reasons the GOP was a minority policy pretty much from the day they doubled down on it in 1932 until Trump.

Every president that republicans think of as great rejected the premise. Eisenhower build the interstate system and formed NASA. Reagan massively increased government spending, especially in scientific research and in defense spending. Nobody actually believes in that garbage.

As best I can tell, it was a failed attempt to counter the New Deal. Instead of just coming up with their own solutions, they concocted this small government meme as some principled opposition to the New Deal when they NEVER had any intention of following through with the principle when they took power.

The 'party switch' narrative is bullshit. I'm sure it was created by lifelong D's to prevent them from taking any responsibility for their sins. The basic's of the parties have not changed that much. Democrats have always used race as a hammer and have mostly intentionally kept minorities down. The GOP has used slogans about minorities but is mostly indifferent to them. I've been saying for at least 5 years, in another generation the GOP will own the lionshare of the black vote, I stand by that. The Democrats haven't done shit for Black people, except talked nice about them for 50 years. Now, the Democrats have said Fuck the Black communities we are jumping in bed with Latinos.

I never saw more hatred of blacks than I saw in Chicago. The typical Chicagoan hates blacks with a passion I never saw. In the past.. sure. Lots of racism in the South. Not in my lifetime, though. Nothing like Chicago. You know this. You know better than this.

Racism is mostly a phenomenon of democratic cities as far as I can tell. Nor do I see "racist republicans" pretty much anywhere. Yet all I have heard from democrats over the past few years is hatred of whites and white men in particular. Open, unfiltered racism coming from every corner of the democratic party.

The democratic party uses racism for political gain. Always has. Always will until we finally slay that beast.

It's amusing how they keep the date of the switch so nebulous. Sometimes you hear them say it happened in the 1980s, but now they all figured out that doesn't make any sense because it would imply the "conservatives" were responsible for the New Deal and labor rights, which they desperately want to claim. They won't ever settle on a date for the big switch now. I think they are starting to realize at some cognitive level it's all so much moonshine.
