Production capacity
Supply logistics
Resource redundancy
That is what will matter. Not 2018 F-35s

You don't understand what you are talking about.
I agree the F-35 sucks, but that's because it only has one engine, is not survivable, and doesn't perform on par with real fifth generation air superiority fighters. Not because it's obsolete. It's just a fucking overpriced lawn dart. It's the next iteration of the F-16 concept, which is just a filler for niche roles. The problem with the F-35 is that it's mislabled.
The idea that all you need is a lot of industry is laughable. They will simply destroy your industry before you get started. You won't get a new fighter developed and produced before they wreck all your shit.
The fact is that you ALWAYS need to be developing and producing as if you are at war. Otherwise, you really are going to be at war eventually. All that research, development, and production you say we need to win a war -- we should be doing that now. All the time. Don't stop.

Offensive capability of every great is high enough everyone would lose massive amounts of capacity very quickly. I agree.
But look at the developmental constraints of current tech versus war world two developmental projects?
How many people died everyday on the B52? How much capability is lost to create redundancy to prevent one lost life?
None of true current developmental restraints will be in place once 1,000,000 people die in a week.
Current machines will be obsoleted overnight.
My specific points on the F35 are largely irrelevant within that greater paradigm.

I mean.. if you want to go back to WW2 as your example of industry winning the day (only the world wars make any sense to use as examples here as well)..
It only gave us an advantage because both times Germany was fighting bigger threats on their own continent. If they didn't have to fight British, Russians, and (sometimes) French armies, they'd have kicked the fucking hell out of us if they managed to get troops across the pond.
We were able to do what we did because the British started out the war in control of the Atlantic with a huge navy, and the Russians were coming at the Germans by the millions.
If those things weren't the case, they'd have come over here and invaded us before we were able to build all that stuff we used.

Remember Ukrainian troops getting rolled over by Russian mercenaries?
Remember jihadis over running Syria as the army defected by the thousands?
Remember Iraqis literally tearing their country apart piece by piece after their army deserted en masse?
This is gonna be fucking fun folks.

Re: Current US Military
dude. We'd be exchanging nukes before anything got off the ground. Air superiority in an actual, major war would involve rocket engines, and nothing else.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:08 pmIf we got into it with a major power, and they achieved air dominance over CONUS,nmoore63 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:02 pmI am certainly not knock the importance of air superiority.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Wed Jun 20, 2018 11:39 amI think it would help if both of you had spent time actually fighting, or serving, or doing ANYTHING to these ends in order to understand what the fuck you are talking about. It feels like I am arguing against television shows or whatever you consumed to give you these ridiculous impressions.
If we go to war, and our adversaries gain air dominance over CONUS, you are going to have a really, really bad time.
I am knocking that it is clear we will run through a tech revolution in military equipment the second it is great power versus great power war developes.
That combined with the fact that I consider our regional wars blowing crazies in the desert to be a giant waste of resources.
As such creating the infrastructure to survive domestically while creating and maintaining the capacity to develop, produce and deploy said future equipment is more important than what we need to fuck around in the desert in 2018.

Uh.. yeah.. and then the nukes would be exchanged and we proceed to fighting it out.
Or do you believe all that Jane Fonda slash Carl Sagan bullshit about nuclear war meaning the end of human existence? LOL

Re: Current US Military
The wealthiest nation in the history of humanity should get rid of it's army and navy and when it immediately gets invaded it can just nuke itself to kill the invaders.
What a fucking idiot.

Wait. Hear me out.
What if we just virtue signaled on the Internet until the bad guys feel so badly about themselves that they stop exterminating us with strategic bombing??
