Something someone I know (not well) that is from Ukraine and inside the combat now.
Many people are asking - can Ukraine actually win this war?
The honest answer is - we don't know.
But here are 10 things that we do know:
1) Losses of Russian army in the first 48 hours: 14 planes, 8 helicopters, 102 tanks, 536 armored infantry carriers, 15 short-range cannons, 1 missile complex Buk, dead - over 3500, surrendered - over 200.
Losses of Ukrainian National Army: 137 dead. Rest in Peace, brothers.
Civilian losses - 210 dead, out of which 6 children. No more words.
2) Russians are relentlessly bombarding peaceful Ukrainian cities with tactical missiles, focusing on air defense, military units and critical infrastructure, but hitting civilians everywhere - Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernigiv, Odesa, Kherson, Sumy, and others. It's an all out war.
3) Russian forces on the ground are unprepared. They are badly trained, ill equipped, going around seeking for food (I am serious), leaving their tanks and running away. On the outskirts of Kharkiv and Kiev some have deliberately de-fueled their tanks because they already understood the guaranteed end if they enter.
4) The support of international community, although still not fast enough, is the strongest the history has seen. EU and US agreed to turn Russia off SWIFT. Military equipment provided by France, UK, Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania, Finland. Thank you, we will do the rest.
5) Putin has completely miscalculated the resistance of Ukrainian people. He has been working so hard on building a false narrative, that he started believing it himself. Good for us.
6) The scare about Chechen units sent to Ukraine - done. Today Ramzan Kadyrov, Putin's most brutal Chechen supporter, recorded a video saying that after seeing how Ukrainians fight, he doesn't want Chechens to fight Ukrainian people.
7) Belarus lets Russia use its military airports and roads into Ukraine. Today a unit of Belorussian forces was pushed back around Kiev. Lukashenko wants some of this blood on his hands. Shame, Belarus.
8) Saboteurs are caught and detained in every major city. When caught, they start speaking immediately - they have been planted quietly since some time, renting flats and getting ready for their mission. This war has been planned long, long time ago. Territorial militia units, i.e. normal citizens who have been given arms to protect, catch and neutralize them. Tough luck.
9) Actor Sean Penn accidentally happened to be in Kiev and stayed to make a documentary about what is going on. Also, if you want to see real stories, follow Madonna on Instagram. Respect!
10) And the last one to visualize it for you. Picture number 1 below - the line of abandoned Russian military vehicles, after the soldiers ran away. Picture number 2 below - the line of volunteers in Kiev waiting to sign up to the city militia. This is all you need to know about the difference between Ukraine and Russia in this war.
