Hull is in Yorkshire as is Leeds where he stood trial. It is normal for convicted criminals to be sent to a nearby jail.

He only would not have been transferred if the bobbies put him in the paddy wagon and went straight to Hull. But I'm betting he went into a jail prior to going to court.
