I think your argument would be more persuasive if you could show that most of the people who are committing these sorts of acts care about learning how to effectively use a scoped rifle to kill people. At least anecdotally, that doesn't seem to be the case; instead, it appears that the people who are doing these things are attracted to and are using the semi-automatic, spray-and-pray type of weapon. Certainly that was the case here, and it was the case of Sandy Hook and the Orlando shooter as well. I don't think the government, in deciding what reasonable measures should be taken to reduce the risk of these situations, needs to ignore the evidence of what is actually being used, just because a hypothetical maniac could inflict more damage with training on a high-powered, scoped rifle.

If you ban the ineffective weapons, they will just use more effective ones, they have a gun fetish which is saving lives in a lot of situations by using the wrong tool for the job, and some folks want to take away their ability to use a more ineffective gun and yet allow them to use more effective weapons completely legally. Their argument makes no logical sense, why ban one without banning the more effective weapons?

Do really think banning these weapons will just make the suicidal mass killers go, damn the government ruined all mass shooting fun by having me not fire as many rounds a minute, despite the fact that I can kill more people and go out in a bigger "blaze of glory" if I take my time and kill more people in the same amount of time, because slow is smooth and smooth is fast? You think the part that they are most attracted to is the wasted bullets? That's really what you think?

Or is the real reason these people are attracted these weapon are because it's popular, because of media hype and peer pressure? Banning "assault weapons" isn't going to stop mass shootings, it would just change how most mass shootings are done, and it will probably increase the kill count by default, because they'll be more likely to reach for a more effective tool, if one of the least effective and most popular options is taken from them, which will force them to carry out these shootings in a less amateurish fashion, even with no change in skill level on the part of the mass shooters.

Personally, I wouldn't care about automatic fire, even as a gun nut, in fact, I don't think you're actually much of a gun nut, if you're into spray n' pray, that's a wannabe, a poseur, no self respecting gun nut is going to bother with a bump stock, bump stock is for dweebs, if you want to shoot real fast, super duper trigger? This guy in Las Vegas, 5-5-6 with a bump stock from 500 yards, 22,000 targets and he only kills 59?

Less effective weaponry, ammunition and accessories being popular helps keep the kill count of mass shootings down, even if you banned them, the marketing power will just move to more effective weaponry, ammunition and accessories for mass shootings becoming popular instead. Be careful what you wish for.

I really don't see how it makes sense to allow bump stocks when most people are not allowed to own full auto.yeah, the ban of full auto is stupid, but as long as there is a ban (for most people, anyway), then bump stocks should not be a legal accessory. If you want bump stocks, then go tbrough the process to get licensed for full auto.

They let chicks into the infantry, and took our FN FAL's away, at basically the same time, then they disbanded the Airborne Regiment; was damn near a mutiny, troops were openly discussing shooting politicians, I shit you not.

Full auto? Other than from a turret in a bunker, maybe for some jungle ops whilst tripping on acid. I've only shot full auto twice, and get the feeling you might as well be blasting away with bird-shot with your 870 at a target 80 yards downrange. Lots of flash and pop; and makes you an easy target.*

Col. Jeff Cooper didn't have much need for it; that tells me all I need to know.
