If Marines didn't fight better in a marine environment than the army or air force, than they really would be obsolete. That isn't the case though.GrumpyCatFace wrote:The marines are known for their affinity to water proximity. They fight better in humidity.

You can just look at the latest LHA's that the Navy is ordering for the Marines to operate from, they are taking the "assault" aspect right out of the equation, they're not even ordering them with docks anymore, they're not designing them to land heavy equipment for an opposed landing, instead, they are turning them into mini-aircraft carriers, packed to the gunnels with F-35B's.

Still not seeing how the army and air force can just take over almost the entire job of the navy and still be far more effective doing those jobs than the Navy could ever be. That's Grumps theory and it's ridiculous on the face of it.Smitty-48 wrote:You can just look at the latest LHA's that the Navy is ordering for the Marines to operate from, they are taking the "assault" aspect right out of the equation, they're not even ordering them with docks anymore, they're not designing them to land heavy equipment for an opposed landing, instead, they are turning them into mini-aircraft carriers, packed to the gunnels with F-35B's.

The Navy is becoming a Seabasing force, all aircraft carriers and logistics ships, the Army is saying "we can ride in those, if there's no opposed landing, then there is no requirement for a dedicated amphibious force", the Air Force is saying, "we're going to win the war with airpower alone, we will destroy the enemy, and then the Army can come in and mop up", the Marines are saying "we're an airforce too! We want some of that sweet sweet air force money", the Navy is saying "we're an airforce too! We want some of that sweet sweet air force money too!"StCapps wrote:Still not seeing how the army and air force can just take over the entire job and be far more effective than the Navy could ever be. The Army hasn't figured out how to turn themselves into an air force yet, but they're working on it.

That about sums it up.

Get it right, it's not CoD, it's Command and Conquer! Don't you know, it's one of the few games you can defeat an entire map with air power only...Xenophon wrote:Nah, man. Right but just because Navy and Army are trying get in on the Air Force action doesn't mean that the army or navy is obsolete and America should focus exclusively on air power. They just want government cheese, big difference.Smitty-48 wrote:The Navy is becoming a Seabasing force, all aircraft carriers and logistics ships, the Army is saying "we can ride in those, if there's no opposed landing, then there is no requirement for a dedicated amphibious force", the Air Force is saying, "we're going to win the war with airpower alone, we will destroy the enemy, and then the Army can come in and mop up", the Marines are saying "we're an airforce too! That's where Grumps goes off the rails, thinking the navy is obsolete because it's trying to get in on the air power game, who needs a navy when you have an air force and an army?

Let's be serious here. The USN has the largest budget. They starve out important programs for their carrier groups, which serve little unique strategic value other than dick waving. The Navy has almost twice the budget of the USAF and takes up almost half of the the defense spending.
If you want to seriously cut waste in the military, then cut the carrier groups at least in half.

Re: North Korea News
Aircraft carriers have a whole more strategic value than dick waving, but at least this an argument that isn't completely retarded, unlike the "fuck the navy, we have an air force and army, we don't need no stinking navy" one that I've been hearing. If you want to argue that US military could allocate it's resources more wisely than the current setup, that's kind of hard to argue against, but you don't need to come to ridiculous conclusions about the navy being obsolete in order to back up that assumption, and that's where Grumps goes wrong.Speaker to Animals wrote:Let's be serious here.
