Offering you an out, really. Whatever you want to call the paranoia-induced clown show engineered by the MIC for the past decade is fine with me.Speaker to Animals wrote:Alt-right media...

Re: Europe Boring Until it's Not
Turkey getting kicked out of NATO would be a pretty huge deal. The largest army in Europe after Russia, with about as many active personnel as Britain, France and Spain together. A Turkey with no friends, would be a Turkey seeking friends elsewhere, as they would have no chance at turning into the Ottoman empire anytime soon. Russia would probably be a decent ally for them, which would give Russia the unlimited access to the Mediterranean. But this again would change the power balance between Russia and NATO.GrumpyCatFace wrote: Soooo Turkey gets kicked out of NATO? I'm still not seeing the issue here. It sounds like a lot of diplomatic tension which could give us an excuse to lower tensions with Russia. All good things to me.
Sure, a NATO without Turkey would still be immensely powerful, as it's still got the US. But I kind of get the impression most people think of Turkey as just another backwards third world country with no power projection at all, when they in reality are one of the most powerful countries in the world.

How is Turkey considered part of Europe? They're on the Asian continent, are they not? Even if you draw that line differently, the culture is completely Asian.Otern wrote:Turkey getting kicked out of NATO would be a pretty huge deal. Regardless, NATO only matters because of the nukes. Our nukes. Standing army size has been meaningless since WW2. I see absolutely no reason to care about Russia's "access to the Med", either. Makes no difference whatsoever, unless the world is ending. Maybe creates an extra radiation zone or two.
NATO is completely meaningless, outside of Europe, and never should have expanded east.

Wow.
Go to Google. Look up a location called the Bosporus. This is the boundary between Europe and Asia. Note the territory that lies to the west of the Bosporus (which is Europe) and who controls it..

I'm aware. They straddle the divide, and sit squarely where Byzantium used to be. About 90% of the country is on Asia, and a little remnant on the other side. I'm not a fucking idiot, despite your best efforts to make me dumber by osmosis.Speaker to Animals wrote:Wow.

That is not a European country, by any stretch of the imagination, and frankly I'd be amazed if you could have found it on a map. Or read a map.

They have a foot hold in Europe. It's still mostly Asia Minor or more accurately Eurasia.
Other than that, I don't disagree with any of his post I think.

What does them not being European matter, though GCF? They joined NATO in 1952. NATO was created to prevent further Soviet expansion into Europe. Turkey was a rational ally to help achieve that.
You do realize that there's a non-American and non-European NATO member state? Hint: Three members here are from that country.

Turkey's NATO ties are definately strained. No way of hiding it.
When Turkish military officers that have served in NATO headquarters seek asylum in Europe as basically all that have served in NATO positions are done away with the putsch, you obviously have a problem.
