Here is the problem just from the perspective of one state (Maryland).
Key background
The Trump administration has put the onus on states to obtain medical supplies and expand testing themselves, with the federal government acting as a “supplier of last resort.” It has not been easy. Massachusetts ordered 3 million masks that were confiscated by the federal government at the Port of New York, forcing them to lean on New England Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft to use his team plane to fly in 1 million N95 masks from China. Hospitals in states like California and Florida reported that the Federal Emergency Management Agency had seized their supplies without explanation.
Chief critic
President Donald Trump criticized the governor for going through a foreign state to obtain the tests: "I don't think he needed to go to South Korea. I think he needed to get a little knowledge.” Hogan said he didn’t have a choice. "The president said the governors are on their own and they should really focus on getting their own tests, and that's exactly what we did,” he said on MSNBC.
Big number
21,742. That is how many cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Maryland, though that number is likely to rise once testing becomes more widely available.

There is no way to know how many people were infected because the Trump administration controls the tests. He blames governors for lack of testing but, if they purchase tests overseas, he confiscates them anyway. The CDC wants to control all the test kits and they refuse to make enough of them for community testing to happen. The FDC refuses to approve third party tests that states can use in clinical settings.
You cannot reopen the economy in these conditions without risking mass fatalities. We simply do not know what is going on and we won't even know where it is picking up until the ICU is flooded. Then it is too late.
If you want to reopen the economy, it seems to me that you should direct your ire towards Trump himself. This is intolerable. Why would he steal test kits from states and then blame the governors for not having test kits??
Seriously, do you not see the problem with your stats?
Mass has over 62K worth of infected with just about 2300 deaths total... not the 3600 that Mass states. Being the third-highest state of infections and deaths that is at most 3.2296%, because as it stands now we are only testing those we assume have it, not random people...
So, I expect that percentage to go down drastically with the grand scheme of things...
The more infected, and even if the number of deaths jump up by 2000, it won't matter... I expect that the total number of Mass people infected are going to lump around 1.5 to 3.2 Million people in East of the 495 highway easily.

Those are the lessons we need to learn from the much praised South Korea.
They had all those conditions in place before they were even hit by the virus.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Fuck, my wife makes almost as much as me and she is furloughed... I'm not because of my department and the needs of the company to stay solvent.

Both of our countries are fucked because our English heritage is pozzed with this merchant culture. Both of our governments deliberately scuttled early testing and containment efforts because they decided to force "herd immunity" upon us. Until they realized it would result in millions of fatalities. But their ideological supporters are still fully on board.
I don't know why the American federal government is stealing test kits and preventing community testing from happening in this country. One can only guess at the motivations for that. But it's not hard to guess what is going to happen when we drop social isolation measures in various states.
I find it interesting that governors like Kemp of Georgia, who is fully on board with a money-first ideology, completely lift their social isolation measures without also requiring masks and without even complaining that the federal government has prevented them from establishing the kinds of community testing that a state needs to open up their economy at all.
This shit is crazy.

That's a bullshit argument.
It's a bullshit argument that millions of jobs are gone, May rent/mortgage is due, and the people with not a financial care in the world are here casting stones?
I don't think so.
I think all of that has been heavily supported.

Luckily, thanks probably to our PM nearly dying, there is not such a big rush to reopen here.
The original reaction to the virus was really poor which put us into the position of now being the worse hit European country and one of the worst hit developed nations but we don't have demonstrators demanding to end the shutdown.
We have our fair share of dumb fucks who don't think the rules apply to them and idiots who think crowding onto bridges to thank the NHS is a good idea but as of yet no "rights" movements demanding an end to "tyranny".

It's a bullshit argument that the pandemic should be extended and more people have to get infected in order to protect the profits of landlords and mortgage companies.
