Ahr, well...Ph64 wrote:Reminds me of a post the wife of my old boss made, like two weeks after she posted a picture of a raccoon she shot with her .22 bolt action that was raiding her garden, after the FL shooting she posts how "we need to ban 'high caliber' guns"... I had to reply that, uh, the AR he used was pretty much the same "caliber" (.22 vs .223), they're different in the casing and power (grains of powder) but not much in caliber. Told her if she wants to have an intelligent debate about guns she should really learn and use the correct terminology, otherwise she's gonna be taken as just another liberal idiot. No confrontation intended, just clarifying, wasn't sure what you were saying, as you didn't make your point clearly and concisely, as per usualFife wrote:That's my point, Smits. No need to be confrontational just for the fun of it; unless of course you want to. As per the usual, I'm game.
When I was a kid, soccer moms name-checked "high-powered rifles." Nowadays, it's either "high-caliber" or "assault weapon" rifles. Same-same. 2+2=5
Yeah, "caliber" has lots of dictionary definitions. To you, there are many varied and subtle meanings that make sense. Soccer moms only use the term a blunt-force object to smash reason and conversation.Smitty-48 wrote:And by the way, no, "caliber" does not just refer to bore diameter, caliber can refer to other aspects, so for example, with a howitzer, the bore diameter is read in milimeters, but the caliber refers to barrel length, so for example, 155mm/52 caliber is a bigger gun than 155mm/39 caliber.
