That makes you different than most the people screeching for gun control.Montegriffo wrote:Come on Vik, you can do better than that. Why would I be scared of guns. We have guns here on the farm. You can prattle on about guns all you want but the same amount of slaughter can take place with a fucking truck, as we've seen.
The biggest school massacre happened with a bomb.
You can do all of these things without being some kind of genius. Quit pretending this is about safety and admit it's because guns scare you on a level that defies logic.
Sure trucks can be used to kill people, that's why security bollards are going up all over Europe. That's what responsible govts do after a massacre, they take measures to stop it happening again.
When an article is written by a guy saying he got PTSD from shooting a gun. When the breaking news is that a guy is shooting with an "AR-15 Shotgun" you quickly dismiss anything that follows as ignorance speaking.
If public safety is the issue than there is many more prevalent causes of death, murder just scares people. Illogical fear of guys carrying "high powered" "AR-15 Shotguns" loaded with "Nuclear Face Melting Rounds".
And you're right, responsible governments should address the issue of people ramming trucks into crowds, I think you and I disagree on how however.

Conversely, any conversation inevitably veers into accusation that we are all as stupid as the latest headline. We all have an absolute lack of knowledge on the subject, and therefore cannot be reasoned with.Viktorthepirate wrote:That makes you different than most the people screeching for gun control.Montegriffo wrote:Come on Vik, you can do better than that. Exactly. The same thing that is said to people who argue against climate change.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Conversely, any conversation inevitably veers into accusation that we are all as stupid as the latest headline. If someone feels that strongly about it they should at least educate themselves about the issue if they don't want to be called out for ignorance.
Malpractice is the third leading cause of death in the US. Do you have sleepless nights about that? Do you watch day after day of coverage about it?
You have a better chance of dieing in a car accident listening to news about a terror attack than being the victim of one, yet people panicky about that as well.
Admit it's fucking irrational fear already.

Agree, and I've made these same points myself, in other threads.Viktorthepirate wrote:Exactly. I don't watch days of coverage about anything, but I also have zero faith in 'authority' or 'expertise'. 9 out of 10 'experts' are talking out of their asses.
I have no irrational fear of guns. I have a very healthy fear of guns, in the hands of idiots. Yet, you cannot deny that it's a completely avoidable thing that faces an absurd backlash when it's brought up.

Many things are avoidable if you take away people's ability to do them.

Re: BREAKING: Las Vegas Active Shooter
Reminds me of a post the wife of my old boss made, like two weeks after she posted a picture of a raccoon she shot with her .22 bolt action that was raiding her garden, after the FL shooting she posts how "we need to ban 'high caliber' guns"... I had to reply that, uh, the AR he used was pretty much the same "caliber" (.22 vs .223), they're different in the casing and power (grains of powder) but not much in caliber. Told her if she wants to have an intelligent debate about guns she should really learn and use the correct terminology, otherwise she's gonna be taken as just another liberal idiot. (She kinda is anyways )Fife wrote:FMJ armor-piercing enhancements in the coding while in bong city zone.Nukedog wrote:223 is large caliber in bong land

If we make guns illegal, it will only drive men to dangerous back alley gun dealers.
