Our cars do get better MPG though and electric car development is ahead.
Plus most countries have better public transport systems than you.

Article after article after article claims the tax is necessary to "ween French citizens off of fossil fuels". Aka, social engineering from the top down. Socialists love big government running their lives, unless they actually have to foot the bill at some point. Then it's suddenly a vast conspiracy by rich people to destroy "the worker".

You know, the same "workers" who demand more "economic equality" while simultaneously demanding raises.

I really do think a lot societal angst is a combination of too much social media comparison/ imitation/envy + loss of values that have genuine meaning. The more people have tech wise the more potential leisure time and social comparison time and the more I'd imagine people would want to " protest". Except in the near future it will likely manifest in simply more tweets and other digital signaling rather than action by the protestor to effect change in their tangiable life.
