but I oppose the actions, if true.
You're probably right. That local business owner literally pulled the sink out of his guest restroom to make a point about OWS.

I'd go find the picture of the shitted up bathroom for you, but I know it will make me puke, so you can go see for yourself. It was disgusting.

Certainly, Walmart paid their panzy (who claims to own his own business,) extra money to shit all over their own restroom.

Uh huh... I'm gonna start calling you Occam.

But I'd hardly be surprised to learn that the reports were bullshit.
You just can't imagine how a local person can run a local Jewish deli in a city that is flowing with locally owned restaurants?
The City, sure. Not Manhattan. Unless they inherited a 'special deal' from their ancestors, nobody could afford to set up shop there as a "mom n' pop" - at least not by my definition.
Have you ever been to Manhattan?

Once, and did not enjoy it. I'm no expert on it, but I do know that the real estate prices are particularly insane there.

My sister lives in a town of 2,500 people. I can get breakfast for three there for $12 + tip. Do you think that's how much breakfast costs in NYC? Do you even know how business works? You understand the price of things changes based on the cost of things?

Indeed. I never said that a business couldn't be profitable there. But the startup costs would be exorbitant.

It's possible that a few "mom n' pop" operations have managed it, but that is some rarified air to base your argument around.

Your sister charges you for breakfast?
That’s cold.

It changes based on demand. More money in people's hands means prices rise. That effect works backwards to suppliers, not forwards.

In general, increases in input costs have more of an effect on shutdown conditions.

The real estate prices are a given. I recently cashed out of the Bay Area market which runs neck and neck with Manhattan. Entrepreneurs still exist even in those markets. The cost to play the game doesn't necessarily make the game prohibitive to play. A quick Google and there are several "Mom and Pop" type businesses in Manhattan on this list by Business Insider.

You pick some weird hills to die on.
