How does an unpopular opinion on social media made outside of work translate to "toxic and unproductive workers"?
LOL
You are all over the place. Try to take it logically, step-by-step..

Sorry dude, you’re saying stuff way too stupid to respond to. You may notice no one is quoting you, or responding to your unhinged rants. You literally have nothing to say, so by all means, do not continue speaking for our benefit.Speaker to Animals wrote:How does an unpopular opinion on social media made outside of work translate to "toxic and unproductive workers"?

Take your meds and hop back on the exercise bike, or do whatever you do with your copious amounts of free time.

Then he might have been able to send out emails with unpopular ideas, or stupid tweets, or whatever.
I don't think she should be fired for that tweet.
I am sure she is perfectly good at teaching about Almond husbandry, or whatever Fresno is on about. Probably just Almonds.
I think I explained what I meant, no need to ignore it.

The corner: Businesses should be free to fire employees who negatively impact the company.
Someone please help me defend my radical and untenable position. Heeeeeeeelp!
Lithium and stairmaster will do more for some folks than a thousand inane and vitriol-laced posts, yet they won’t help themselves. Ah well.

Well, not to nitpick with your alleged logic or anything but..
(1) This is not a business but a state university.
(2) Her tweet in no way interfered with her job.
(3) Nobody here has denied the right of an employer to terminate people for what they say, only that we should be more restrained about these witch hunts.
One might add an honorable mention regarding of the absolute irony of you mocking the disabled in a post where you defend firing anybody who says something offensive online..

I get it. You want to call something terrible, even if its primary function can have positive results, so it becomes 'inadvertent,' somehow.DBTrek wrote:Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:

I had a retarded analogy. You had a barely comprehensible non sequitur. Sad.
Didn’t say they had inadvertent primary functions. Said they “inadvertently cause good results.”
A-herpa-derp-derp, counselor.
As in ... unions save the jobs of useless shitbags 99.9% of the time. But in your hypothetical alternative world where Google is unionized (which they never would be, seeking top tier talent), they might have saved James Damore’s job. Well, that was certainly a worthy and meaningful observation. In a world where frogs have wings ...
In a world full of shitbags, Damore is the rare case of someone who could have been helped by an organization whose job it is to help people like Damore.

An 'effective union' is made up of people advocating for themselves, not a 'protective mother.' Working with others in your field to protect your interests because you don't have the leverage to do it on your own doesn't undermine personal responsibility.DrYouth wrote:So here we are at a classic crossroads.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote: I didn't bring up tenure and unions, but they don't 'inadvertently' protect peoples' jobs, terrible or not. Unions are the archetype of "protective Gaia"... protect at the expense of competition.
Overprotective mom.
Union busters often swing to other pole... classic Mars/Mercury...
Sink or swim dad.
Probably we need some degree of protection for the exploitable masses in the worst of times...
But we need to ward off overprotectiveness that stifles personal responsibility and discourages excellence and achievement.
The question is where is the balance... is there any such thing as an "effective union" that acts as advocate but promotes personal responsibility?
I do not have the answer to that... never having been unionized myself.
