It's a competition to shoot yourself in the foot faster than the other guy.

Free traders already blew our feet off. Now we are just trying to drag our limp bodies away before China pulls the trigger and puts us out of our misery.

It definitely is amusing, though, to see free trade morons talking about shooting yourself in the foot..

Yes, those traitorous bastards, with their not-tariffed trade. How did they dare to allow buying and selling across borders without extra taxation... String them up, verily.

Free trade is largely why the second half of the twenty century saw massive gains in human life expectancy.

If there is anything to be shot off, it’s that people’s comfort and expectations have become to high as to concern ourselves with what bathroom to use rather running water.

Dude, he conspires with China to flood our economy and destroy our steel industry. Fuck him.

They don't export steel. They export "steel products", meaning they help China get around trade restrictions by stockpiling Chinese steel, and then using NAFTA loopholes to flood our markets with subsidized products.

Shut it down.

For a second I thought Trudeau was reading one of GCFs economic posts aloud.

This is a huge problem. It deserves to be read. This is why we are pushing for tariffs.

Well as someone who imports a lot of manufactured products from China for reselling, I can tell you this.

In my specific niche industry, it's all about the service.

I can get the same stuff (most of the time) made in the US for the same price as I would China after you factor in freight etc...

What I can't do with an American manufacturer is send them my brain fart if an idea at 5pm and have detailed drawings by 9am the next day.

I get anything I need immediately from China.

I had an American mfg who I do a million in business with every year tell me that he won't stock more frames to improve lead time. Demand has increased by 20% every year but his production capacity has not.

I went to my buddy and China and now it is a bit more expensive but I don't get told to go fuck myself when I ask someone I pay 1 million a year to do something.

If I had my druthers I'd do all American, but the service is way worse compared to what I get from China.

This is of course, only applicable in my specific niche industry.
