Someone came in with the book Crazy Like Us: The Globalization of the American Psyche and decided to tell us that we as Americans need to stop spreading our "Americanism" all over the world. I asked them what they meant, and they started to go on about the book, etc... and how that people around the world see doctors in the US or visa versa and they are told that they don't like themselves because of "x" and are prescribed medication for it or another way of life...

Saying how male privilege is the reason for anorexia, etc... I asked them to explain. They told me that men want women to look a specific way and women think they need to live up to those ideals...

I asked, why does it matter what men think? Why can't women just look the way they want and better themselves for them, and if a man loves them, then so be it... if not, there are other fish in the sea.

She then said that male privilege allows it to happen, and then she went off in how a black man would get paid more than a black woman in the same situation... but a white male would get paid more than both. She said that they went through statistics on this in class, and it shows to be true...

I'm thinking to myself that it's illegal to do that... then she says how I could walk down a street and not worry about getting raped, while she couldn't...

Seriously? I'd be worried more about being mugged than raped if I was her in the first place... but I'll ignore that, it's a poor example, a tired one at best...

Then she was saying that I have more privilege than she does (she is a white female) and I'm thinking to myself, who's smoking what now?

I have to ask, when did these people start having brains of squirrels?

Can we edit the title of these threads and remove the profanity? I don't want to leave this thread open on my browser. What if my mom sees the title and thinks I talk this way? TC get rid of those F words and change the title so it doesn't seem as mean. Dumb is not a word that I would use to describe anyone. It does not allow people to see eye to eye, because you have already written them off. How can you win people over talking like that? Shit, I was agreeing with on 99% of the lootcrate stuff, until you started to insult me and use curse words. When you curse, you curse yourself (Goethe, Faust page 91 Penguin Publishing Co, Manhattan). Four letter words coarsen our culture and make us seem unkind and uneducated. If you can't get your point across without swearing, you need to reflect upon your arguments. Joe Pesci curses a lot in movies. You might think thats "cool" or "gangster", but Pesci's characters never last long. Have you seen Casino? Do you remember how he ended up? His flippant disregard for authority was evident in his liberal use of certain words beginning with f. I'm not going to repeat them, but you know which ones I'm talking about. Pesci's foul mouth might have stemmed from childhood abuse, or from his short stature. The guy can't be more than 5'4'' or 5'5'', and I guess he thinks that talking like a "tough guy" will add six inches to his height. I kept thinking throughout that Joe Pesci came off as a bad person in that movie, and the cursing became a magnifying glass for his flaws. He could have done a lot with his life. He always combed his hair and dressed nice. His suits would shine, and he knew how to talk to women, especially Sharon Stone. But any respect that I had for him went right out the window when he started to talk like a dockworker stuck in line at the DMV. TC, you are on a similar path. Like Pesci, you feel the need to use toilet language to get your point across. I don't know why this is the case. You make great points, and you have many good ideas about video games and our current laws about weapons. You have the ability to command attention, yet you cheapen your own ideas by swearing and insulting others. Please help me see things from your point of view. I understand that it is frustrating to reach an agreement, but don't take the easy road. Cursing just gains you temporary respect. If you want to know the truth, I was a bit intimidated at first when I saw this thread, and I didn't want to open it, because of the profanity. But I knew I couldn't fuck with you, because a man who talks like that is a man who is not to be trifled with. But eventually I realized that the curse words you use are a cry for help. You are not sure that you are right, and adding some salty language might give your post the muscle it needs to get reddit gold. That is not a minor concern. But sometimes you have to climb a mountain without a rope. You have to let your ideas stand for themselves. I think you are a great guy, but you need to be a little less crass. If you want, send me a private message everytime you want to post. I can look at your posts, edit out the curses, and give you the push you need. I am not talking about a lot of money either. A few dollars per post is not going to bankrupt you, and it will certainly help me to save up for some good microsoft office products which do spell check and many other functions. It sounds to me like good grammar is just as important to you as it is to me! Think about it. We could do it together as a team! I'm not leaving my parents house until I max out all my skill levels on Runescape. I am getting tired of explaining this to people. I should have this achieved in less than 4 years. By 35 I will have a pretty decent skill set under my belt in the Runescape world and be able to survive and thrive in the real world. Maybe you don't care, but I certainly do, and I am going to follow through on something for once in my life. All the haters out there can think what they want, you included!
