Nixon was a brilliant human being, but he did not appear camera savvy at all. Completely uncharismatic imo. How was he slick?Smitty-48 wrote:They hated Nixon way more, Nixon was a considerably more formidable opponent, Tricky Dick, was actually very slick, way slicker than Trump, this is why taking him down was such a coup, I don't think they even actually hate Trump, because he's actually great for ratings, he's like the Golden Goose, he's pretty much keeping all their paychecks coming, singlehandedly.heydaralon wrote:Do you guys think Trump is hated by the media worse than Nixon was?

We know who - it's the politicians who love their corruption. The rich and powerful need us to hate each other so we don't pay attention to the dry ass rape they are giving the non rich & powerful.
Fuck that - this isn't left versus right - it's the haves versus the not haves.... with the haves doing a fantastic job convincing the not haves that half of their not haves are the enemy.
Fuck that. I stand for truth, regardless of which side has it.
If Trump has the truth and spreads it, I'm on his team immediately. All he's shown so far is that he's petty, mean-spirited and hateful of anyone who isn't rich and/or powerful.
I'm on the side of the Haves, they're quiet, they keep their yards well tended, they don't bother me.
The Not Haves are a pesky nuisance, If they come round here, I'll sic my dogs on them.

Nixon had already made a long career as a politician and did actually achieve a lot in his career and presidency.Smitty-48 wrote:They hated Nixon way more, Nixon was a considerably more formidable opponent, Tricky Dick, was actually very slick, way slicker than Trump
When it comes to Trump what is telling that people here insist to themselves that only thing (what matters) is that the President nominates judges to the Supreme Court.
That tells in a nutshell how spectacular Trump's accomplishments and presidency in general has been. There's not much... at least so far.

He won back to back elections handily, the second one in a crushing landslide, I think he's charismatic, I love Tricky Dick, what's not to love? Nixon was a jolly good fellow, he just had a drinking problem, got a little too sauced up and went a little overboard, but hey, I know how that goes, who doesn't?heydaralon wrote:Nixon was a brilliant human being, but he did not appear camera savvy at all. Were you a fan of Nixon's actions in the Vietnam War?Smitty-48 wrote:He won won back to back elections handily, the second one in a crushing landslide, I think he's charismatic, I love Tricky Dick, what's not to love? Yeah, I think he did what he had to do, with the giant sized mess that he inhereted from the Democrats, in the context of realpolitik.

Did the strategic Cambodia Laos Madman strategy actually work in your opinion?Smitty-48 wrote:heydaralon wrote:

I think it did rattle their cages, I don't think they actually thought he was mad, that's just rhetoric, but they definitely knew that the jig was probably up, in terms of skating with a pass up in Hanoi, it definitely made them want to give Nixon an exit which he could sell, just to be rid of the Americans, sooner rather than later.heydaralon wrote:Did the strategic Cambodia Laos Madman strategy actually work in your opinion?Smitty-48 wrote:heydaralon wrote:

I think the Madman Strategy was more effective against the Soviets, the Soviets were the nervous ones, Hanoi didn't think Nixon was going to nuke them, but the Soviets, they thought everybody was out to nuke them.

I am a have-ish. We work hard, and are on the upper end of the proles. We stay quiet-ish... but we have voices. What we do know, being on this cusp, is that the have-nots are growing while the haves are shrinking. Some of our former haves friends are now non-have friends. The list grows longer every year. And we work through it and scale back our outings. We're flexible like that. But... this is the reason we are not the actual haves, but merely a have-ish.Smitty-48 wrote:

We have a Marie Antoinette situation starting to happen. It's at the early stages, no chicken little, yet, but we do have to nip it in the bud before it becomes more serious. The Gilded Age was not sustainable then, and it's not sustainable now.
Account abandoned.
