The region of SoCal is not reflective at all of the other 49 states demographically speaking and the impact they have on the policy of the other 49 states is tremendous.

You have a state (CA) which the Democratic party could not exist without. You take away CA electoral votes and *poof* no more Democratic party.

This gives CA, a state we all recognize as being an extreme outlier to the rest of the nation demographically and politically speaking, dictating their extreme views on the rest of the country.

It's literally like have a province of Mexico vote in our presidential elections right now and that trend will only grow.

As far as being poorer without CA, Lets cut'em loose and see how property values hold up in the Golden State. They'd open the borders and the rich would bail to the Gulf Coast so fast.

If California left the Union, the only thing poorer about it would be California. There are plenty of states willing and able to take over where California left off a long time ago. Mass has a booming movie production foothold, The NE has a lot of startup game companies, as well as education.

The mid west is always looking for companies to move in...

California, and a lot of other people are thinking too small... they think they are the center of the universe when it comes to the Union of the US, when in reality, they are just nothing more than over-inflated ego and dead weight in a lot of cases.

To suggest Assad is the only one with bloody hands is totally disingenuous. Ian Bremmer knows that the situation is much more complicated.

He knows that without DIRECT help from NATO and the UAL Assad would never have had to kill 10,000 people and this war would have ended years ago.

Just like Russia has propped up Assad, extending the war and raising the the death toll so have we.

The region of SoCal is not the heartland of Communism that you all think it is either. The extreme positions are born and bred in the Bay Area. Southern California is much more balanced than the rest of the state. Get east of the Coast Range and the ideology is no different than anywhere in the Midwest.

Don't forget that 1/3 of the US was literally Mexico only 169 years ago.
