Red herring. What's the correct statute of limitations for paternity?MilSpecs wrote:Is there any time limit on your desire to know that your children exist?Fife wrote:Kath wrote:I'd also add that if the mom fails to tell the father about the child, she can't come crying three years down the road that she's entitled to child support. She can have that if and when the father wants to be part of the child's life and she accepts that. This process needs to be more transparent, overall. Mothers who don't tell their one night stands that they are pregnant are part of the problem.

I don't have a fully fleshed out plan in my head, just a generic sense of fairness. It's a weird world where dad doesn't even know and mother comes along 15 years later with a demand for 15 years worth of child support.Fife wrote: What's the correct statute of limitations?

I would personally go with written relinquishment at a state level, with some kind of time period for withdrawing that relinquishment. Since we're talking about pregnancy, the time period would of necessity be brief.Fife wrote:Define "relinquishment process."MilSpecs wrote:Agreed. There's another side to this though: at some point there's another person who should have the right to health and heritage history. The guy should submit that as part of the relinquishment process. It can be done anonymously. Not having that history poses health risks, especially as we become more aware of the genetic component of diseases.Kath wrote: He shouldn't be allowed to force an abortion, but in a perfect world, he should be allowed to relinquish any and all responsibility & rights wrt the child.

Define what you mean by 'paternity.' In the context of relinquishment? Genetic paternity? Legal paternity?Fife wrote:Red herring. What's the correct statute of limitations for paternity?MilSpecs wrote:Is there any time limit on your desire to know that your children exist?Fife wrote:

You could also just abolish all the unconstitutional income stealing in the family court system. There's that too.
Women have jobs now too. You don't need child support and alimony.
I am all for paying for day care along with education, though. No reason not to get a job.

Written relinquishment as I wrote above. How would you prefer relinquishment established?Fife wrote:Define "relinquishment process."

I clearly said written relinquishment. I'm not going to write the statute. You're the lawyer.Fife wrote:My "preferences" don't mean shit. Yeah, you clearly said some undefined term. Not acceptable for honest debate. Say what you mean and say what you mean.
Define "relinquishment process."
Just say what you mean, clearly, and we'll be able to talk it out.
