Mr. Obama invoked an obscure provision of a 1953 law, the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, which he said gives him the authority to act unilaterally. While some presidents have used that law to temporarily protect smaller portions of federal waters, Mr. Obama’s declaration of a permanent drilling ban on portions of the ocean floor from Virginia to Maine and along much of Alaska’s coast is breaking new ground. The declaration’s fate will almost certainly be decided by the federal courts.

Nuclear is important because there are already a lot of plants up and running and more in the pipeline, they give us the time we need to come up with clean renewable sources of energy. A reduction in energy use is just as important, proper insulation of houses is a big factor in using less energy. Very high standards need to be met in Europe when building new homes thanks to EU legislation.

So natural gas and oil are still the best non-hydro energy options in Canada for the foreseeable future, despite the envirobolshies clamoring for "green energy". They might want to get their "green energy" to actually be economically viable in comparison to the alternatives before demanding we ditch fossil fuels altogether, but they'd rather throw the baby out with the bathwater instead. They never were a smart lot.
