Modern life is too easy.Viktorthepirate wrote:It's just comfort level. It comes with experience.
I always had people tell me they couldn't be a soldier like I was and my response always was that they definitely could. May not be the best Soldier, but everyone can unless they have some physical disability.
Guns only spook people because they take on some kind of mystical death dealing quality. If you look at it like any other item with moving parts it quickly becomes obvious most guns are rather simple.
Take that same person nervous at the range a few times and have them take apart the weapon while explaining how all the components work they will quickly adapt.
If I forced someone who hates guns to hunt their own food, they'd quickly lose their hatred and fear and look at it as another tool because they will become familiar.
As with most our societal issues, they come about because people have time to worry about all kinds of shit other than feeding themselves like we are designed to do.

You want to craft laws based on the exact model of box cutter used by the 9/11 hijackers, or just ban box cutters from planes and lock the door?Speaker to Animals wrote:You don't even know what kinds of weapons were used in this shooting.

No, but if you are calling for bans on automatic weapons, which already are banned in practice due to extreme regulation, and the guns used weren't even automatic weapons, then maybe you don't have much value to add to the discussion.

I don't know all of the weapons he used as he had a small arsenal in his hotel room but according to most reports he used a semi automatic rifle which had been adapted to fire like an automatic. From the length of firing and the high body count we can assume that he had large capacity magazines.Speaker to Animals wrote:You don't even know what kinds of weapons were used in this shooting.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Nope, clearly nothing wrong here. Just standard hunting/defense equipment, used to kill and wound 500+ people. We shouldn't apply this in any way to future policy.

I've always supported an education system for this. When the 2nd Amendment was put into place, fathers taught their sons how to use guns correctly. Today, fuck it... that's not in the cards unless you are in a gang and want to learn how to shoot side shot.GrumpyCatFace wrote:So then, you would support a mandatory training of some sort, before guns could be purchased? The Conservative wrote:You are talking to the choir, I have my license to carry/conceal in Mass... know how hard it is to get that? That being said, most people just are ignorant, and they like it that way, which makes it dangerous for someone who isn't. When I was teaching people how to fence, the most dangerous people were the ones that knew nothing. The ones that knew what they were doing were some of the safest people to be around.
It's the uneducated that are the most dangerous.

Great. Now just convince the NRA that this is not the equivalent of chattel slavery, and we'll have an actual step toward progress. The Conservative wrote:I've always supported an education system for this. Ummm, these courses are backed by the NRA, they suggest people take them. It's the government that refuses to make it something everyone learns. Rather have them learn this than the bastardized education we are taught today.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Great.
