Big Government White Elephant pool of cash being thrown out of a helicopter into the desert? That's the sort of thing which goes overboard all on its own, which is why any conservative worth his salt wouldn't vote a dime for it, you said the Mexicans would pay for it, you own that promise, any congressman who would throw himself in front of that is just being silly, go ahead and chirp from the bully pulpit, I'll just keep throwing "Mexicans will pay for it" back in your face, not my problem.
Their aren't many conservatives worth their salt and say they won't pay for better border security because government spending is more important. That isn't going to sell Smitty, he won't deliver on Mexico paying for all of it, and never intended to. Getting them to pay for some of it will more than suffice.
You may not believe me now on the border wall tip, but when Trump does exactly as I have said on this issue, and gets away with most of what he wants, you'll see that it fits the "outrageous opening offer" pattern perfectly in hindsight, if not in foresight.
Trump can even tell everyone exactly what he's doing in a best selling book and a huge chunk of people still don't believe it even when he does it right in front of their eyes. They still believe the outrageous opening offer in both the business world and in the political world, despite Trump telling them exactly them how he's playing them. That's how effective the tactic is for him, even when the defense knows it's coming, they still can't prevent it from being effective. He's that good at it, he can even fool you fool you with that play and I've brought up to speed on his well documented strategic use of that tactic, so you know to be on the lookout for it.
Trump's got skills, he hides in plain sight.
