That sucks man. Do you have a Nazi HoA as well? In many neighborhoods in Florida, these evil groups will dictate people what plants they can put in their own yards. Absolutely ridiculous shit. Constant harassment about the right kinds of trashcans etc. Really revolting people. From the few pictures I have seen, it doesn't appear that you live in a very urban area, so I am surprised the town would care if you had some chickens. Pretty silly rule if you ask me.GrumpyCatFace wrote:I would love to have them, but the town laws don't allow it. I have not read through this entire thread, so I don't know if this idea has been floated around or what, but chickens are an excellent investment. I used to raise a few bantam chickens at a time, and they would produce eggs which was awesome. Chicken shit is pretty putrid but you could use it to fertilize your garden as well. You would need to get a chicken coop, and secure a small area in your yard for them, but you might like the experience. As gay as this sounds, it is pretty cool buying chicks from a feed store and watching them grow. I also had mallard ducks. If you decide to get chickens, make sure you secure that coop well because predators will be scoping out those hens.

My parents have banana trees in their yard, though they are not pretty bananas like you see in the supermarket. The fruit looks rotten even if you picked it five minutes ago, and the bananas are small. Also, I have cut down banana trees in the past, and those fucking things retain a lot of foul smelling water. Rotting banana trees smell like sewage. They are some of the most resilient plants I have ever seen, and they will grow back even if you bash the entire tree into pulp.

No, this is a little tourist town, sort of small. Maybe a dozen stoplights. Just trying to protect their image I guess, but it's annoying.

Sounds like plantains, maybe? You can probably find a nice grove nearby, growing wild.heydaralon wrote:My parents have banana trees in their yard, though they are not pretty bananas like you see in the supermarket. I live relatively close to a small town in Florida called Gotha. Its a cool town, that is well-maintained, and they let people have chickens in their yard. As a result, driving through Gotha you will see chickens roaming in lawns, and occasionally in the street. Its pretty cool man. The chickens just mind their own business, pecking for worms or whatever, and they give the town a unique image. Oviedo FL also has roaming chickens, and in Clermont and Oakland there are free grazing peacocks.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Oh I'm familiar with those fascists.heydaralon wrote:That sucks man. Is that old trader store still there? They used to have all sorts of stuff from the 40s. It wasn't like a retro thing. That stuff was literally from when the store was there back then.

I know this guy who lives in Pittsburgh (in Mount Washington) and he used to keep 4 chickens for eggs, in his backyard. THe only problem that he had was that other animals would come and try to kill his chickens. It got to a point where one died and he had to give up the remaining three to another Pittsburgh family.heydaralon wrote:I live relatively close to a small town in Florida called Gotha. Most of the chickens I had didn't live long. A lot of hungry dogs, raccoons, and hawks.Penner wrote:I know this guy who lives in Pittsburgh (in Mount Washington) and he used to keep 4 chickens for eggs, in his backyard. Yeah, he did lose one chicken and also the people that he gave them to had a close yard where they would be safer.heydaralon wrote:Most of the chickens I had didn't live long. Im not sure which store you are referring to, but it sounds like a cool place if it is still around.Speaker to Animals wrote:Is that old trader store still there?
