While I am not for lowering academic standards, I am conflicted on this.

Algebra has zero real-world use, unless you're going into engineering. By that, of course, I mean quadratic formulas and logarithms, not the basics.

Well think about it. How would you use that information unless you went to college? The high school degree labor market has no use for algebraic formulas. Besides, you have to retake it in college anyway.

Teach the basics, like X = Y/2 and slopes, and spend more time on science.

Maybe, its about more than the specific informational content of the class? Taking a class on alegbra might teach you other things, too (shocking concept, I know).

Get rid of the alegbra requirement and hollow out the value of the credential.

And if you retake it in college, better to be acquainted with it and struggle with it while it's free (assuming public HS), than to take it in college and fail the course and piss actual money away, no?

Electricians, pipe fitters, simple finance (including personal finance, e.g., PMI)......I'll chalk your comment up to the anesthetics.....

Read the article - dean is scared he's going to loose funding for piss poor graduation rate....so his answer is to change the requirements by decrying math is racist....what a scam....
