That's true, I agreed with you on that point.

Just saying it's not impossible for a change. But I agree it will be quite painful before it's brought on.
I wouldn't hold your breath, all rumors of the impending demise of the American Hegenomy, are absurdly overstated, mostly by Bernie Bros and Lolbergs, but they would say that wouldn't they? What else are they going to say?
I'm unhappy blowing so much money on "defense".

I don't think it will change in my lifetime however.

"Blowing" is subjective, objectively, your military budget is way down, inflation adjusted, from the Cold War zenith, and in terms of size, per capita, it is back down to where it was in the Interwar period of the 1930's.

Really? I have trouble believing that, though I'd be interested in being proven wrong.

Got anything I can read that says that?

Pretty simple. Just get out your inflation calculator and crunch the numbers.

The budget in 1962 was $363 billion, which would be $2.9 trillion 2018 dollars.

The budget now is $700 billion, which would be $85 billion 1962 dollars.

Inflation adjusted, the Post Cold War Peace Dividend has fluctuated between a 75% and 80% reduction in military spending.

You have to do your own analysis and get down to fundamentals, because all editorializing about it is tainted with ideological bias, so for example, if you read left wing editorials, which you probably do, they will assert that US military spending is at "RECORD HIGHS!", but of course when you suss that that is not inflation adjusted, then you realize that it's really just ideological propaganda.

Does not matter how much you cut military spending, lefties will always say that it's "exorbitant!", because they covet that revenue for their own entrenched interests and pet projects, like public sector unions! and smart cities! and climate initiatives!, and blah, blah, blah. . .

. . . I would submit tho, it's not actually a choice between guns and butter, it's a choice between guns and bloated public sector spending in other areas, which may not actually be more useful, and could rather be a complete and total boondoggle, just a lefty wefty pet project boondoggle, with neither guns nor butter at the end of it, so, careful what you wish for.

To wit, what butter exactly, has been cut to pay for these guns? Answer; none at all, entitlement spending is through the roof, guns and butter is not actually an either or proposition, that assertion in of itself, is just more ideological propaganda.

Reality check, America is the worlds largest purveyor of guns, made in America, and so actually, guns are butter in the end.

How to ruin your career in 60 seconds............... Don't take the Oath of Enlistment seriously

An Air Force Sr NCO took the oath of enlistment with a dinosaur puppet on her hand mimicing the words of the oath. An AF Colonel presided over the reenlistment.

Colonel - reduced in rank, forced to retire
Sr NCO taking oath - fired, facing Administrative Punishment, likely a Field Grade Article 15
First Sergeant shooting the video - Fired, Letter of Reprimand

3 careers in 60 seconds, that's pretty good. Check out the video at the link.
http://dailycaller.com/2018/04/18/dinos ... e-careers/

A couple of thoughts
1. Good for the Air Force leadership that dropped that hammer on these three
2. Bad on the Air Force for allowing a culture of silliness like this to grow
3. Fuck the Colonel, TWO FUCKING SR NCOs thought this was a good idea and execptable practice. WTF. Sr NCOs are the standard bearer. They hold the line, that is their primary job. Air Force NCOs should be showing this shit to their Jr NCOs and laying down the law.
PLATA O PLOMO

I saw that. I really don't know what happened since the 90s.

We used to do crazy, fucked up shit, like attack pilots with firetrucks after their last flights, or torture airman on their last day in the unit, but anything that was military custom like this was sacred.
