On a $20,000 house no doubt.
$255,000. I sold it after he died, for $750,000.

I don't know when you think houses were $20,000, but my grandparents bought a house in Flintridge California in the 1960's, and that was $43,000.

My father sold it after they died, for $1.35 million.
My dad's first house was $24K in San Diego, brand new.

I bought a couple junkers in the $20K range.

Average house price in America in the 1980's was about $75,000, so Grumpy's fantasy that $20,000 houses were just falling from the vine in the land of milk and honey 1980's, is still just nostalgia for an America that never was.

“Average” now is $240k homie. There’s a lot of stuff in that average.

Working class would have been 20k range, now it’s 100k

$100K is dirt cheap, that's $43,000 in 1985 dollars.

But to get that house for $20,000, you'd have to go back to 1975.

My father looked at a house in Toronto in 1978, it was $70,000, which he thought was too much.

More fool him, that house is worth $2.7 million now. He was kicking himself back when it was on the market for $1.4 million.

It's like my house, I bought for $390,000, which is $169,000 1985 dollars, my agent told me she could get $600,000 for it, but we like it here, and everything else around here is expensive too, just down the road there's a bungalo which sold for $885,000. It's done up to the nines, and it's got a built in apartment to rent out, but still, it's not nearly as nice as our house.

Main thing is, just make sure, when you shell out serious money for a house, that you could live there happily for the rest of your life if you had to, then you don't have to worry about how much it's worth.

My parents bought their first house in 1970 for £3k when Dad was earning about £1k. Now it costs about 10 times a good wage to buy a house.

The average income in the USA is $80,000, the average house price is $240,000, so it's three times the average income to buy the average house, which is exactly the same.

If all you're going to do is fabricate reasons to cry blubber and prattle on about doomsday scenarios, we'll be forced to NHL hockey talk this thread into oblivion, consider yourself warned.

Only a classless society would have no aristocracy, but there is no such thing, so aristocracy always persists and has never been eliminated, and as the communists have shown, attempting to produce that classless society never goes well.
Notice that on Marty's list there, five of the six highest social mobility countries; are monarchies, and five of the six lowest social mobility countries; are republics.
You mean the only one with liberty in an aristocracy isn't the queen? Liberty redistribution from a benevolent monarch works way better at preserving liberty than wealth redistribution by the state, someone should tell Martin Hash.

Sounds like censorship of threads you don't like to me. Hypocritical really.
