In most ways it is a result of money, or to be more exact wealth. We are a very wealthy country from top to bottom, and that has made us soft and lazy. In most of the world, if you are poor you don't have time to be perverse. You are too busy with more important things. In the west, even the poor have the time to be as perverse as they wish.

I don't view money as evil, but more as the vehicle. People that are making a subsistence living don't have time to indulge in the perversities we see in society. And in our case, this stuff is being pushed by design, not by natural development.

I love free market capitalism, but we're not practicing it. That's why I think it's not only proper, but essential that we have controls on capitalism. You can't pretend to have a free market when Blackrock and Vanguard own everything and the politicians, because then you end up with East Palestine, OH where the train corp is just allowed to burn it to the ground and get the next train running.
