Time to bring Soupie on.
It's not Andersen's fault yet

The defense anchored by Sandin, Liljegren, Marincin and Barrie is simply getting caved in by the heavier veteran Pens

You need to keep Soupie fresh to play the next game, because this is a derby, home and home against the Pens twice

The thing is they have an overarching mental malaise which has gripped the whole team

They just play recklessly, they run around, and they turn the puck over, they try to force plays which ain't there

So that's flailing, and they're all doing it, so it's a group mental collapse

Reason being is that they are not deep enough to live up to the hype, so they are cracking under the pressure

The huge contracts of the Big Three have put them in cap jail and they didn't draft a defense

Can't be fixed this year, they need to build the supporting cast, it's not going to be done by calling everybody up from the Marlies.

How does the cap work?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The maximum team salary is $81.5 million and all your contracts have to fit under it somehow

There are loopholes. but the Leafs are already using every possible loophole to boost them over the cap to $92 million

How much are the top players earning?

The maximum allowable salary for one player is 20% of the cap, or $16 million

Matthews, Tavares & Marner are making $16 million on front loaded contracts which pay more in the early years

Their average salaries each year work out to $11.6 million, $11 million and $10.8 million

Next highest paid is Nylander at $6.96 million Average Annual Value (AAV)

Andersen is in year four of a five year $25 million contract, paying him $5 million AAV

And the rout is on, the Loafs have completely quit in the face of the Pens, nolo contendere

See this is why they need to sell at the deadline, because this team is not close, they are not contending this year

Face reality Dubas, don't throw future assets away on this line up, you need to amass more depth not less

See even though they are embarrassed now and so trying to compensate, they still won't go inside

Still just skating around the outside trying to pass the puck into the net with nobody in front of the goalie

And then after all the flailing, the veteran Pens pick them apart with ease

5-0

Really the Leafs problem is that they are young, they are led by kids, and under pressure they play like kids

ffs couldn't score with a 2 man advantage and then go 5-0 down as soon as the PP is over.
It's a massacre.
